Safe Home Formula for Cleaning Fruit from Pesticides

Dream - Usually, fruits and vegetables are only cleaned using water to remove dirt that sticks to them. Both are immediately eaten or processed after they appear physically clean.

In fact, dirt and pesticides may not necessarily be removed by water alone. You may have seen some people grinding the surface of an apple and finding white flakes.

The white flakes are claimed to be remaining pesticides that still stick and cannot be cleaned with ordinary water. You need to soak them in a mixture of several easily available kitchen ingredients. Here's how, as quoted from Chef Martin Praja's Instagram post.

Step 1: Place the fruit in a clean bowl.

Step 2: Pour water until the fruit is submerged.

Step 3: Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Stir well and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.

Step 4: Discard the water used to soak the fruit. Rinse the fruit again with running water before consuming or processing it.
