Dream - Who says it's difficult to find halal food in Hong Kong? The following restaurant recommendations are very suitable for you Muslim travelers.

Hong Kong is not an Islamic country, Buddhism is the dominant religion. The Muslim population is only 4.1 percent or about 300,000 out of its 7 million inhabitants.

However, the Hong Kong government continues to attract tourists by increasing Muslim-friendly facilities and activities, with more than 70 certified halal restaurants.

Halal certification in Hong Kong is issued by the Incorporated Trustees of The Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong. 

Together with the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and Cathay Pacific, the Dream team recently had the opportunity to taste the culinary delights in the Pearl of the East. 

Halal food can be found not only in corners of Kowloon, Central or other densely populated areas, but also in Hong Kong Disneyland.

Jashan Celebrating Indian Cuisine

Hong Kong is a place that is a food paradise, ranging from Cantonese cuisine to Middle Eastern cuisine. One of the halal cuisines in Hong Kong that must be tried is Indian cuisine. One of them is Jashan Celebrating Indian Cuisine, guaranteed halal because it is already halal certified.

This is the first Indian cuisine restaurant in Hong Kong to be included in the Michelin Guide. It was also awarded as a "Masterchef Recommendation Restaurant" in 2019 and a "GHM Cordons Bleus Recommendation Restaurant" in 2016.

What's on the menu?

The flavors of India are deeply embedded. For lunch, you can choose various pre-arranged menus, including their specialties such as Bombay tawa chicken, butter chicken, and mirchi kebab. Also, Indian soupy dishes like Dal Dhaba, Corn Palak, Prawn Jalfrezi.

When you come, you will be served with Indian breads such as Naan and Masala Dosa placed on your dining table. Not to forget, the typical Indian drinking water served in golden glasses.

It is located in the Central area, on the 1st floor of Amber Lodge, 23 Hollywood Road, SOHO, Central. The prices vary, ranging from HK$20 to HK$190 and above.

Islamic Centre Canteen

One special place you must visit is the Islamic Centre Canteen located on the 5th floor of Masjid Ammar and Osman Ramju Sadick Islamic Centre, 40 Salvation Amy Street, Wan Chai.

The menu served is very suitable for Indonesian taste buds. Starting from fried rice, omelette, chicken feet, soup, dumplings, and many others. 

Snacks like boiled dumplings, sui mai, and har gau are also a must-try. As for shrimp dumplings, they are recommended for those who enjoy crispy food.

Tour guide Carolus Cui said that the dim sum at this place is the only halal-certified dim sum in Hong Kong. 

JAJA Restaurant

Next, let's visit a restaurant called Jaja which is definitely safe for vegetarian food. Located on the 6th floor of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, 2 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, this restaurant has a design that is all pink.

Very instagrammable, especially with cute dolls intentionally displayed to welcome visitors.

The first dish served is a salad with a super beautiful plating. At that time, Dream also enjoyed menu items such as sushi, smokey rorn ribs, mean green croquettes, and red curry pizza. There were also sweet dishes like cheese cake, chia seed pudding, and picasso cake where we had the opportunity to decorate the cake.

As for the price, you have to spend a little less, with food starting around HK$60 and drinks HK$40. However, for the drinks, you have to understand the names of the menu items, as some contain alcohol.

Interestingly, there is a bonus behind the 6th floor of this restaurant, namely the view of the Harbour area and Victoria Harbour which becomes even more beautiful if you visit it at night.

Tahitian Terrace Hong Kong Disneyland

One of the destinations for tourists is Hong Kong Disneyland, the largest amusement park in Hong Kong located in Penny's Bay, Lantau Island.

If you're hungry while visiting Hong Kong Disneyland, you don't need to worry. Because there is Tahitian Terrace Restaurant that serves halal food and is already halal certified.

There are delicious Southeast Asian snacks such as Thai chicken curry and Singaporean laksa, and even Rendang. 

This restaurant is located in the open-air area of Hong Kong Disneyland surrounded by green trees. The prices range from HK$55 to HK$140.

Tagline Restaurant and Bar

The restaurant located on the 4th floor, 10 PRAT, 10 Prat Avenue, Tsim Sha Tsui is called Tagline Restaurant and Bar and is also a must-visit culinary destination.

This restaurant serves traditional Indian and Arab dishes and is halal certified. It was founded by chef and nutritionist Kiran Sukhani. You can taste mushroom soup, chicken concoctions, and authentic Indian rice. The prices range from HK$55 to HK$240.

Flaming Frango

If you're still not satisfied with Indian cuisine, there is Flaming Frango, the first Piri-Piri chicken concept restaurant in Hong Kong.

Its signature dishes include Piri-Piri Chicken, Piri-Piri Chicken Wings, and Flaming Frango Chicken Burger served with Piri-Piri fries and homemade salad. It is located at Ground Floor, 55 Elgin Street, Central, Hong Kong. 

Cupping Room

If you don't want heavy meals, you can visit Cupping Room cafe which offers various coffee, tea, and cakes.

It is located at Museum Café 1, LG floor, Hong Kong Palace Museum West Kowloon Cultural District. In front of it, there is a view of the Harbour that enhances the pleasure of brewing coffee.
