Dream - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited the PT Hyundai LG Industry (HLI) Green Power electric car battery factory in Karawang Regency, West Java, on Thursday, September 14, 2023. According to him, the battery factory is part of the development of a large electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem promoted by the government. With the establishment of this large ecosystem, Jokowi hopes that Indonesia can enter the global electric vehicle supply chain.

"Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia added that the factory has started conducting production trials since the groundbreaking ceremony exactly two years ago. "Now the products are already available, currently undergoing trial and error, maybe by March next year, they will start production," said Bahlil. Bahlil stated that the factory has implemented the latest technology from LG in its production process. Interestingly, out of the five LG factories worldwide, Indonesia is one of the countries using the latest technology."
In addition, Bahlil explained that the president's visit was conducted to observe the second stage of the factory's production expansion, which amounts to 20 GWh. According to him, once the factory has been built, its production capacity will increase to 30 GWh.

Bahlil conveyed that with the existence of this factory, it is also a manifestation of Jokowi's aspirations to develop downstream industries. Bahlil said that in the future, Indonesian children will be the ones running its operations.
