"Clearly, the increase in wages for laborers is far from the increase in civil servants. The government should pay attention to this matter, as the group that contributes taxes for civil servant salaries is laborers."

Elly considers the life of workers like slaves in an oligarchic system. This is because their wages are deducted for taxes to be allocated as civil servant salaries that can increase by 8 percent next year, as well as for retirees who receive a 12 percent increase.

"Workers are also citizens where every income will be deducted for taxes, even spending is subject to taxes. The government should pay more attention to the laborers as taxpayers to the country for the livelihood of civil servants."

On a separate occasion, the General Chairman of the Confederation of the Indonesian Labor Union (KPBI), Ilhamsyah, also complained about the deemed inadequate increase of the 2024 Minimum Wage (UMP).

According to him, the workers have fought hard so that next year's minimum wage can be increased by up to 15 percent. However, the government prefers to prioritize salary increases for civil servants over the workers.

"We also know that the government has just set a salary increase for civil servants at 8-12 percent. Of course, the wage increase that exists today does not meet the aspirations of the working class or laborers," he said.

Some regional heads have announced the amount of UMP 2024. So far, there have been 33 provinces that have determined the increase in UMP 2024. In terms of percentage, the highest increase is in Central Sulawesi Province at 8.73 percent. Meanwhile, the lowest increase in UMP 2024 is recorded in Gorontalo Province at only 1.19 percent. However, it should be noted that this percentage does not necessarily mean that the nominal amount of the increase is also the highest. It is known that UMP 2024 has increased by around 1.19-4.89 percent throughout Indonesia.
