"If the 2024 Election Runs in One Round, the Impact is Positive for Investment"

"If the 2024 Election Runs in One Round, the Impact is Positive for Investment"

According to Aviliani, a senior economist from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef), it would be more optimal if the Presidential Election (Pilpres) were held in one round. She believes that this could have a positive impact on the level of investment in Indonesia.

The 2024 elections are scheduled to be held simultaneously on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

If the 2024 Election Goes in One Round, the Impact is Positive for Investment

"Aviliani stated that after February, it is expected that investment realization will increase. This is due to the fact that during the election period, investors generally tend to wait and observe (wait and see)."

"Investors, especially in the real sector, they want to invest now but they don't know who the president is. What the policy will be like, so maybe after one round, starting in February it will be good again (investment),""
"said Aviliani during the Public Discussion 'Evaluation and Perspectives of Women Economists INDEF on the National Economy, Thursday (28\/12\/2023)."

"Meanwhile, if the Presidential Election (Pilpres) is held in two rounds, then investors will take longer to adopt a wait and see attitude. The impact may affect the economic conditions in the coming year."

"This is also what makes 2024 not necessarily better than 2023. That's because we also have an election year," he said.

"Aviliani also hopes that the presidential candidates (capres) and vice-presidential candidates (cawapres) can maintain order without causing disturbances. This aims to ensure that investors can uphold their decisions to invest in Indonesia."

If the 2024 Election Goes in One Round, the Impact is Positive for Investment

The translation of "Apabila Investor Tinggalkan Indonesia" to English is "If Investors Leave Indonesia."

"When investors choose to leave Indonesia and do not invest their capital in this country due to the instability that arises after the elections, it can create difficulties for the progress of the nation and the state in the future. Therefore, Indef hopes that the elections and the presidential election next year can proceed peacefully."

As conveyed by Aviliani, the Head of Retail Research at Sinarmas Securities, Ike Widiawati also expressed the view that holding elections in a single round is more beneficial for maintaining market stability. On another occasion, Ike stated that the scenario of a single-round election could push the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) to reach the level of 7,700.

If the 2024 Election Goes in One Round, the Impact is Positive for Investment

"The one-round scenario is better for the IHSG, more likely to reach the highest level of the IHSG at 7,700," said Ike as reported by Antara.

He stated that if the elections proceed to the second round, it will raise concerns among business actors.

The cause is that the continuation of the second round of the election will prolong political uncertainty. Conversely, if the elected president is determined in the first round, political stability will be realized more quickly, providing certainty for the market.
