Dream - Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) is in the spotlight on social media for offering a tuition fee payment method through an online loan platform (pinjol). The account uploaded a pamphlet containing information about monthly tuition installments provided by ITB in collaboration with a third party, namely Danacita.
Danacita also provides information as an official partner of ITB. As for the loan application, it can be submitted without down payment and collateral. Borrowing students can choose payment options within 6 months or 12 months. Meanwhile, in another post, it is informed about the interest charged for borrowers. If borrowers apply for a loan worth Rp12.5 million with a tenure of 12 months, then each month the borrower must pay Rp1,291,667. It is stated that the monthly platform fee is 1.75 percent and the approval fee is 3 percent.
In response to this matter, Head of ITB Public Relations, Naomi Haswanto, stated that ITB is committed to providing quality education access for all students.
As a State Legal Entity Higher Education Institution (PTN-BH), the country through Government Regulation Number 65 of 2013 concerning ITB statutes, provides autonomy in 3 (three) fields, namely program management, employee management, and financial management independently. In this regard, the regulation regarding the amount of Single Tuition Fee (UKT) is considered as a conditional form of autonomous policy. It is called conditional because the determination of the rules regarding the amount of UKT is required to consult with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Higher Education.
"The obligation to pay UKT by students every semester is binding for ITB students and must be fulfilled by every ITB student, and through this writing, the regulation also responds to the writing of brother Taufiq Pangestu, a Student Representative on the ITB Board of Trustees, which was released through social media. The writing quoted personal conversations through telephone channels, between the person concerned and the ITB Rector, and it is regrettable that it was made without permission (consent) from the ITB Rector," said Naomi, quoted from the official ITB website, Friday, January 26, 2024."
"For payment methods, students have various options that are served by diverse banks. 'Whether through virtual account services or credit cards, as well as being able to make payments through non-bank educational institutions, which are registered and supervised by the Financial Services Authority (OJK),' he said. Specifically for students experiencing difficulties in paying tuition fees (UKT), ITB through the ITB Student Affairs Directorate provides procedures for applying for UKT relief and UKT installments for each semester for students."
The entire mechanism of academic and financial administration described above has been detailed in the ITB Rector's Regulation. Students have received socialization and can access the regulation at any time to understand it well.
Naomi mentioned, ITB remains committed to providing solutions for SNBP and SNBT pathway students to continue their education at ITB despite the limitations and difficulties they face.
