"Dream - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has inaugurated the Karian Dam and the Sitanala Water Treatment Plant (IPA) with a capacity of 500 liters per second in Lebak Regency, Banten. Jokowi stated that the newly inaugurated Karian Dam is one of the largest dams in Indonesia that can meet the raw water needs of the community."
The translation of "Bendungan Karian" to English is "Karian Dam".
"Not only for Banten Province, the dam can meet the water needs in Jakarta up to Bogor Regency."
“Bendungan Karian will also be able to meet the raw water needs of 10.6 cubic meters per second for the communities in Serang Regency, Serang City, Cilegon Regency, Lebak Regency, Tangerang Regency, South Tangerang City, and Tangerang City, as well as in West Jakarta and also Bogor Regency,” Jokowi explained as quoted from the Setkab website, Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
Jokowi explained that the Karian Dam has a water capacity of 315 million cubic meters with a flooding area of 1,773 hectares. With these specifications, the dam is capable of providing irrigation benefits.
“This will provide benefits to the community in Banten Province as well as in DKI Jakarta and a small part in West Java Province. First, this dam will provide irrigation benefits for 22 thousand hectares of rice fields,” said Jokowi.
"Jokowi stated that the Karian Dam has been built since 2015 with a budget of Rp2.2 trillion."
"He believes that the dam is not only a source of water but also has benefits as a flood control measure, especially in Serang Regency and Rangkasbitung District.
'Fourthly, this dam also functions as a micro-hydro power plant that generates 1.8 megawatts of electricity,' the president stated."
