Dream - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) speaks out about the closure of the Bata shoe factory in Purwakarta Regency, West Java.

"On the other hand, the President emphasized that the closure of the domestic company's factory named PT Sepatu Bata Tbk does not reflect the overall economic condition of Indonesia."
That is because the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the Indonesian economy grew by 5.11 percent annually (year-on-year/yoy) in the first quarter of 2024.
The President also assessed that the national economic growth of 5.11 percent fosters optimism amidst the current global recession. "But clearly, on a macro level, our economic development is very good at 5.11 (percent)," said the President.
It is known that PT Sepatu Bata Tbk has stopped production at the factory located on Jalan Raya Cibening, Bungursari District, Purwakarta.
Among the reasons, because for the past four years, this Bata shoe factory has suffered losses due to low orders.
Head of the Department of Manpower and Transmigration of Purwakarta, Didi Garnadi, stated in a separate occasion that due to a decrease in orders, PT Sepatu Bata has gradually laid off its employees. The number of employees affected by the layoffs is 233 people.
