DreamPrayer by those left behind for those who are about to go on Hajj is important to practice. Considering that Hajj is an extraordinary worship for Muslims. Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam that must be performed by every Muslim who is able to make a round trip to the Holy Land.

Of course, there are many things that are expected for the family and the hajj pilgrims themselves. One of the expectations is their safety and the acceptance of their worship by Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Therefore, when a family member, relative, or someone we know is about to go to the Holy Land, it is advisable to pray for them when bidding them farewell.

Islam teaches us to recite prayers in every activity in life, including the prayer by those left behind for those who are about to go on Hajj. This prayer is practiced to ask Allah to always provide protection for those who go on the Hajj pilgrimage. It is also a prayer for their Hajj to be accepted.

Here is the prayer recited by those left behind for those who are about to go on Hajj that is important to practice.

Prayer by Those Left Behind for Those Who Are About to Go on Hajj

It is recommended for us to recite prayers for those who are going on Hajj, whether they are family members, relatives, friends, or neighbors.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught about the prayer recited by those left behind for those who are about to go on Hajj. Quoted from the book Kitab Al-Adzkar by Imam Nawawi, this prayer was recited by him (peace be upon him) when one of his companions declared that he would embark on a long journey. As narrated by Imam Tirmidhi from the Companion Anas (may Allah be pleased with him).

Here is the prayer based on the narration:

زَوَّدَكَ اللهُ التَّقْوَى وَغَفَرَ ذَنْبَكَ، وَيَسَّرَ لَكَ الخَيْرَ حَيْثُمَا كُنْتَ

Zawwadakallâhut taqwâ, wa ghafara dzanbaka, wa yassara lakal khaira haitsumâ kunta.

Meaning: “May Allah equip you with piety, forgive your sins, and make it easy for you to do good wherever you are.”

The prayer by those left behind for those who are about to go on Hajj, also known as the prayer for sending off hajj pilgrims, can be recited during the farewell event for the hajj journey.

Prayer for Sending Off Those Who Are About to Go on Hajj According to the Narration of Imam Ahmad

In addition to the narration of Imam Tirmidhi above, there is a prayer by those left behind for those who are about to go on Hajj based on the narration of Imam Ahmad. So when hajj pilgrims pray for us who are left behind, we can respond by reciting the following prayer:

أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ دِينَكَ وَأَمَانَتَكَ وَخَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ

Astaudi’ullooha diinaka wa amaanataka wa khowaatiima ‘amalik.

Meaning: "I entrust your religion, trustworthiness, and last deeds to Allah."

Prayer Throughout the Journey Home from Hajj

If hajj pilgrims have completed their Hajj pilgrimage and are about to return to their home country, there is a prayer that needs to be recited throughout the journey home from Hajj. Here is the prayer that can be recited by Dream readers:

 باسْمِ اللَّهِ اللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أسألُكَ خَيْرَها وَخَيْرَ أهلها وَخَيْرَ ما فِيها وأعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرّها وَشَرّ أهلها وَشَرّ مَا فِيهَا

Bismillâh allâhumma innî as-aluka khairahâ wa khaira ahliha wa khaira mâ fîhâ wa a‘ûdzubika min syarrihâ wa syarri ahliha wa syarri mâ fîhâ.

Meaning: “In the name of Allah, O Allah, I ask for its goodness, the goodness of its owner, and the goodness of what is in it. And I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its owner, and the evil of what is in it.”

Prayer for Welcoming Those Who Have Just Returned from Hajj

In addition to praying for those who are about to go on Hajj, it is advisable for us to also welcome the arrival of hajj pilgrims by reciting prayers for them. As mentioned by Imam Nawawi in Kitab Al-Adzkar, here is the prayer recited to welcome those who have just returned from Hajj:

قَبَّلَ اللهُ حَجَّكَ، وَغَفَرَ ذَنْبَكَ، وَأَخْلَفَ نَفَقَتَكَ

Qabballallâhu hajjaka, wa ghafara dzanbaka, wa akhlafa nafaqataka.

Meaning: “May Allah accept your Hajj, forgive your sins, and replace your expenses.”
