Resort Wear from Environmentally Friendly Woven Fabrics, Modern Design

New Color Collection

Rumah Pewarnaan Alam Jabu Borna, Tobatenun presents its latest collection entitled 'Terbit' (Rise). This theme is chosen because it is considered full of positivity and optimism, just like most people in the morning.

"Because when we wake up in the morning, there is a lot of optimism and positivity because after waking up, there are many plans. So, because this is a new exploration," said Melvi Tampubolon, Partner & COO of Tobatenun at Alun-Alun Indonesia, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

Beautiful Natural Colors

The Resort Wear Toba Tenun collection consists of 12 outfits, including tops, outerwear, pants, and others, in a combination of cream, blue, and white colors. Due to the natural dyeing process, the colors produced tend to be natural and exotic, not vibrant. Melvi explained that this represents the identity of the wearer, who values environmental conservation.

"If we care about the environment, it can show our identity. We wear colors that are not flashy, like this," she said.

Comfortable on the Skin

The collection is made from linen crepe fabric, 100% cotton, which is claimed to be breathable and absorbs color faster. According to Melvi, natural dyeing that does not use chemicals is also safer and more comfortable for the wearer's skin.

"Actually, with natural dyeing, we don't use chemicals, so it means that we have already been exposed to many chemicals from all the products we use on our bodies and faces. So, this is actually comfortable and safe for the skin," she explained.

Woven Accents

Not only in terms of comfort, this collection also maximizes the utilization of handcrafted woven fabrics by the weavers. One of the ways is by using pieces of woven fabric as one of the highlighted accents.

"The process of weaving fabric takes a long time, so because of the long process, we want to utilize it down to the smallest strand, so nothing goes to waste," said Melvi.

Care Instructions

Melvi explained that this collection should not be washed using a washing machine and regular detergent. To clean it, simply dip it in water and use baby soap or shampoo.

After that, do not hang the fabric directly under the sun. It should be shaded or placed in a cool area.

"For all sustainable fabrics or fabrics that use natural dyes, it is not recommended to be sent to the laundry. Just dip it, and when drying, avoid direct sunlight. It should be shaded," Melvi advised.

Although there may be a potential decrease in color intensity when first washed, if cared for properly, the collection made from natural dyes will last longer.

Promoting Sustainable Fashion

With this latest sustainable fashion collection, Melvi hopes that more people will also want to wear environmentally friendly clothing. Moreover, this new collection is relatively more affordable compared to woven fabrics.

"Our hope for the latest collection is that more people will try to wear environmentally friendly collections because, to be honest, these collections are more affordable than woven fabrics," she said.
