Tuberculosis Disease in Indonesia, 35 Percent Affects Productive Age

"Dream – The incidence of tuberculosis (TB) is still very high in Indonesia. TB itself is an infectious disease caused by bacteria, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium bovis, Mycobacterium africanum, Mycobacterium microti, and Mycobacterium canettii."

According to the WHO Global TB Report 2022, there are currently 10.6 million people in the world falling ill due to Tuberculosis, resulting in 1.3 million deaths from it.

"Indonesia is one of the eight countries that contribute 2/3 of tuberculosis cases worldwide, ranking second after India with a new case burden of 1,060,000 cases and a death toll of 134,000 lives, equivalent to 15 deaths per hour due to tuberculosis."

"The fact is, the coverage of tuberculosis case findings in the productive age group (25 - 54 years) in Indonesia is around 35%, but if we extend the age range to 15 - 60 years, it becomes approximately 70% of the total, thus this data contributes very significantly to the spread of tuberculosis in Indonesia."

Various parties are working to prevent the transmission of tuberculosis, including in the workplace where most of the workers are in their productive age. In this regard, Otsuka has initiated a Tuberculosis-Free program in the workplace.
