The heart and mind that are feeling restless should not be left alone. This can gradually not only disturb physical and mental health, but also disturb the faith and daily worship of Dream's friends. Therefore, it must be immediately addressed in accordance with what is taught in Islamic teachings.

Here are ways to calm the heart and mind according to Islamic teachings that Dream's friends can practice:

1. Patience

The first way to calm the heart and mind is by being patient. Yes, Islam strongly teaches its followers to always be patient in any condition. Because patience does not mean giving up, but it is the right way to control oneself.

The command to be patient is explained in the words of Allah SWT in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 177 as follows:

وَالصّٰبِرِيْنَ فِى الْبَأْسَاۤءِ وَالضَّرَّاۤءِ وَحِيْنَ الْبَأْسِۗ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ الَّذِيْنَ صَدَقُوْا ۗوَاُولٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ الْمُتَّقُوْنَ

Meaning:and those who are patient in adversity, hardship, and in the time of war. They are the ones who are truthful, and they are the ones who are mindful of God.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 177).

2. Salah

In addition to being patient, another way to calm the heart and mind is by performing salah. In addition to performing obligatory salah, Dream's friends can also complete it with sunnah prayers. For example, performing tahajjud prayer in the third of the night. This is explained in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 153 as follows:

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوا اسْتَعِيْنُوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلٰوةِ ۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ مَعَ الصّٰبِرِيْنَ

Meaning:O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 153).

3. Praying

Islam commands its followers to always pray to Allah SWT in any condition. Whether it's in times of joy or sadness. Because no matter how big a person's effort is, without the help of Allah SWT, that effort cannot be realized. The same goes when Dream's friends feel uneasy. Therefore, praying is the solution to make the heart and mind feel calm again.

The command to pray is explained in a hadith narrated by Muslim as follows:

The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration. So increase supplication (while in prostration).” (HR. Muslim).

4. Having Good Expectations of Allah SWT

Another way to calm the heart and mind according to Islamic teachings is by having good expectations of Allah SWT. In Islam, this is called husnudzon. As Muslims, we should always have good expectations of Allah SWT in any condition, especially when the mind and heart are not calm.

Because Allah SWT has full power to decide everything, including everything that happens in the life of every individual. Whether it's something good or bad, everything is by the will of Allah SWT. This is explained in a hadith from Abu Hurairah ra, where the Prophet Muhammad said:

Allah the Exalted said, 'I am as My servant expects Me to be.'”

The recommendation to perform wudhu when the heart and mind are restless is explained in a hadith narrated from Athiyyah as-Sa'di ra, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

Indeed, anger is from Satan and Satan was created from fire. Fire can be extinguished with water. So, when one of you is angry, let him perform wudhu.

6. Remembrance of Allah

When the heart and mind of a Dream friend are restless, try to remember Allah. In this moment, you can draw closer to Allah and remember Him. By increasing remembrance of Allah, the heart and mind can become calmer. This is as mentioned in the Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 152:

فَاذْكُرُوْنِيْٓ اَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوْا لِيْ وَلَا تَكْفُرُوْنِ ࣖ

Meaning:So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.” (Al-Baqarah: 152).

Meaning:And thus We have revealed to you (O Muhammad) a soul (the Quran) by Our command. You did not know what is the Book (the Quran) or what is faith, but We have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed, [O Muhammad], you guide to a straight path.” (Surah Ash-Shura: 52).

The last way to calm the heart and mind according to Islamic teachings is to always be grateful to Allah. Remember that Allah has bestowed many blessings upon His servants, even more than the restlessness we feel. As explained in a hadith from Abu Hurairah ra, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

Look at those who are lower than you and do not look at those who are above you, for this is more fitting so that you do not belittle the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon you.

Allahumma inni as-aluka nafsan bika muthma-innah, tu’minu biliqo-ika wa tardho bi qodho-ika wataqna’u bi’atho-ika.
