Ahead of Eid 2023 Holiday, BSI Prepares Cash of Rp37.6 Trillion

Dream - PT Bank Syariah Indonesia, Tbk. (BSI) has prepared cash amounting to Rp37.6 trillion to meet the financial needs of the community ahead of the Ramadan and Eid 2023 holidays. BSI also continues to monitor the readiness of their 2,552 networks throughout Indonesia to function properly for 24 hours.

"The number of travelers during this year's Eid al-Fitr is estimated to reach more than 120 million people. To support the smoothness and convenience of the community celebrating Eid in their hometowns, we continue to ensure that all BSI services can operate well," said BSI Vice President Director, Bob Tyasika Ananta, in a press release quoted on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

During the Eid al-Fitr 1444 H holiday period, BSI will prepare 236 branch offices in various regions of Indonesia that will operate on a limited basis during the period of April 19 to 25, 2023. During this period, branch offices will serve customer transactions including cash withdrawals or deposits, transfers, complaint handling, and partner payment transactions (e.g. Taspen, Asabri, Tax).

"The operation of these branches is our commitment to continue serving customer needs. The selection of our operational branches is focused on Main Branch Offices, especially in public locations," said Bob.

In addition, BSI also provides new currency exchange services to customers at 32 mobile cash locations in various regions, such as the Bank Indonesia (BI) office yard, mosques, ports, rest areas, malls, and markets.

This cash exchange service is also available at 74 BSI branch locations with exchange schedules adjusted to the provisions of BI in each region. (x)

BSI Pays the Largest Zakat in Indonesia in 2023

Dream - PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) has paid the company's zakat through the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) for 2023 amounting to Rp173.07 billion. This zakat amount increased by 41.2 percent compared to 2022.

BSI President Director, Hery Gunardi, said that the increase in zakat was driven by the company's net profit growth throughout 2022. 

Of the total zakat distributed, a contribution of Rp141.40 billion comes from the company's profit. The remaining Rp31.66 billion comes from the employees' zakat.

"Alhamdulillah, the company's zakat from BSI this year is the largest in Indonesia," said Hery in his written statement on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

Hery hopes that the increase in zakat contributions from the company will encourage BSI as the largest sharia bank in Indonesia to provide more value to the community and zakat recipients according to asnaf.

For information, in 2021, BSI distributed Rp94 billion in corporate zakat. This amount increased to Rp122.5 billion in 2022 and became Rp173.07 billion in 2023.

Hery explained that as a sharia financial institution that is also a public company, BSI provides value to the country in the form of tax payments. 

Furthermore, it provides value in the form of zakat for the community and dividends for shareholders.

In addition, as a commitment to bring benefits to all layers of society, BSI also has zakat, shadaqah, and waqf (ziswaf) instruments in its banking services.

BSI Zakat Contribution in 2022

Throughout 2022, BSI's zakat, which was submitted through BAZNAS, was distributed to several programs with a total of 145,962 beneficiaries.

As for the zakat distribution program, BSI is divided into several activities, such as education with the BSI Scholarship program, Indonesian Student Friends (SPI), and tahfidz scholarships. 

Then in the economic field, there are main activities such as the development of 13 BSI Villages and the development of MSMEs located in Aceh, Lampung, Banten, Yogyakarta, and West Nusa Tenggara.

In the health sector, there are also programs such as health assistance for disaster and underdeveloped areas.

Meanwhile, in the humanitarian field, zakat distribution is carried out through disaster recovery programs. In addition, BSI also distributes zakat for the development of worship facilities.

For information, BSI recorded positive performance throughout 2022 with a net profit of Rp4.26 trillion, growing by 40.68 percent annually (yoy).
