Dompet Dhuafa Targets Fundraising to Reach Rp144 Billion in Ramadan 2023

Dream - Philanthropic institution Dompet Dhuafa targets fundraising during Ramadan 1444H to reach Rp144 billion. With the aim of reaching more beneficiaries to distribute assistance.

"The fundraising target is indeed at Rp144 billion," said Chairman of Ramadan Dompet Dhuafa, Suci N Qadarsih, when met at the Gathering Warrior of Kindness event in Jakarta, Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

Suci mentioned that, at least from the fundraising, Dompet Dhuafa can target 200 thousand beneficiaries.

"Targeting the distribution of assistance to reach 200 thousand beneficiaries," she added.

Suci explained that the funds used for the upcoming Ramadan activities have been prepared for the past year, which is part of the empowerment funds for one year. 

"So, our preparation is for one year of empowerment. Not only for Ramadan but also from our programs throughout the year," explained Suci.

Suci mentioned that Ramadan is a significant momentum because 60 percent of transactions are conducted during Ramadan.

"So, this momentum becomes a significant momentum for many people to pay zakat to Dompet Dhuafa," she said.

Dompet Dhuafa's Ramadan programs include Ramadan Parcel, Zakat Fitrah, Iftar Sharing, Orphanage Donation, and Quran Donation.

The institution, which will turn 30 years old on July 2, 2023, has the concept of M2M, which stands for Mustahik Move to Muzakki. Beneficiaries not only receive money, but they are also empowered through various training programs.

"We also provide empowerment, provide training for them. So that they become more empowered and sustainable," said Suci.

5 Largest Zakat Management Organizations in Indonesia, Fundraising Reaches Hundreds of Billions

Dream - Not only through the government, poverty alleviation efforts in Indonesia are also one of the concerns of Zakat Management Organizations (OPZ). Known as Philanthropic Institutions, Indonesia has several OPZs that manage funds of nearly half a trillion rupiah.

Researchers from the Institute for Demographic and Poverty Studies (IDEAS), Tira Mutiara, noted that the national zakat collection by a combination of all OPZs from provinces and districts/cities until 2021 has reached around 14.1 billion. 

"This is still far from the potential, as Baznas stated that the potential zakat or ZIS (zakat, infaq, sadaqah) is around Rp327 billion," said Tira in the Role of Philanthropy in Poverty and Digitalization in the Philanthropy World event in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

The funds collected are used by the Zakat Amil Institution to implement its programs, which are expected to help the government in reducing poverty.

Referring to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of Indonesians classified as poor in September 2022 was 9.57 percent, or around 26.36 million people.

Data compiled by the institution established and under the auspices of the Dompet Dhuafa Foundation also shows that there are five OPZs with the largest fundraising in Indonesia from 2012 to 2021.

The National Zakat Amil Body (Baznas), owned by the government, is the largest in Indonesia with a total fundraising reaching Rp517.6 billion until 2021, growing by 29.6 percent from 2012.

Followed by Dompet Dhuafa, which was able to raise funds reaching Rp413.7 billion, with a growth rate of about 7.9 percent from 2012.

Next is Rumah Zakat with a fundraising reaching Rp310.2 billion. Followed by Rumah Yatim in 4th place and YBM BRILiaN in 5th place. However, the fundraising achievements of these philanthropic institutions are not mentioned.

"These are the five OPZs that may now play a significant role, their programs are already great for alleviating poverty because their fundraising is already significant, it's just a matter of managing those programs," said Tiara.
