Don't Panic, Here's How to Retrieve Lost Items on Trains or at Stations

Dream - The increase in train passengers has resulted in an increase in the number of lost items. It is recorded that a total of 4,984 lost items were secured by officials and entered into the Lost and Found database system during the period of January - December 2022.

"Of that number, 4,546 have been returned to their owners. The found items often include valuable items such as laptops, jewelry, mobile phones, bags, wallets, and foreign passports," said Joni Martinus, Vice President of Public Relations at KAI, in a press release by KAI, quoted on Friday, 10 February 2023.

Joni explained that customers who feel they have lost or left behind items on trains or at stations can report to officials, including conductors on duty on the train, or security officers at the station, or through the KAI Contact Center at 121.

If the lost item cannot be found immediately, confirmation will be made by phone to the reporter regarding the progress of handling the reported lost item. If found, the customer must show identification for verification of ownership when handing over the item.

On the other hand, if an item is found on a train or at a station, KAI will immediately announce the discovery of the item through the public address system.

If no one claims the item, it will be stored at the station's Security Post and entered into the Lost and Found system owned by KAI.

"All personal belongings are the responsibility of the customer, but to provide maximum service, security officers will always try to help secure any remaining items on trains or at stations," said Joni.

Tips When Items Are Left Behind at Stations or on Trains

Joni urges train passengers to always take care of and pay attention to their belongings when traveling, both at the station and during the train journey. As a precaution, here are some tips when items are left behind at stations or on trains:

1. Stay calm and don't panic, try to remember the last location where the item was seen.

2. Make a report to the Customer Service On Station, security officers, or visit the Lost and Found section.

3. Customers can also contact the Contact Center 121 by phone at 121, WA (0811-1211-1121), or Direct Message (DM) on Twitter/Facebook KAI121.

4. Provide a description of the lost item, booking code, if the item was left on the train.

5. If the report is made through the Contact Center 121, train customers will receive information about the status of the lost item by phone, email, or Direct Message (DM) on Twitter/Facebook KAI121.

6. Avoid giving booking codes or item details to unrelated parties.
