In a hadith narrated by Tirmidhi, at that time Prophet Muhammad was telling his companions a story. Then in it, he mentioned Jubb al-Hazn.

"Seek refuge in Allah from Jubb al-Hazn."

The companions of the Prophet did not know what Jubb al-Hazn was and asked him about it.

"That is a valley in the hellfire. Every day, hellfire itself seeks refuge from it (Jubb al-Hazn) 100 times." answered the Prophet.

Then someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah, who will enter it?"

"The readers of the Quran who do good deeds for the sake of showing off or with Riya." explained the Prophet.

The Deepest and Lowest Part of Hell

Through the narration of Sufyan ats-Tsauri, it is explained about the saying of Prophet Muhammad:

"Indeed, in the Hellfire there is a valley, where Hellfire itself seeks refuge from it (to Allah SWT) 70 times every day. The valley is inhabited by the qurra' who like to visit the rulers.”

The term Jubb al-Hazn itself means the valley of sadness. Where the valley is located in hellfire. As we know, hellfire is the deepest hell with the highest level of punishment.

If we imagine, hell is an ocean, and Jubb al-Hazn is its abyss. So, Jubb al-Hazn is the deepest and lowest part of hell.

In the crust of hell, there are people who seem to be diligent in worship in the world. They have a fluent and melodious voice, but it is actually intended to receive praise from humans or what we know as showing off.

Therefore, someone who reads the Quran diligently but with Riya will be placed in Jubb al-Hazn. That is the lowest and most painful place at the bottom of hell.
