Kuat Ma'ruf Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for the Murder of Brigadier J

Dream - The Prosecutor's Office demanded an eight-year sentence for the defendant Kuat Ma'ruf in the case of the planned murder of Brigadier J, also known as Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat.

The demand is based on the premier indictment of Article 340, subsidiary to Article 338, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) point 1 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP). This punishment is lighter compared to the maximum penalty of death.

"Imposing a sentence of eight years on the defendant Kuat Maruf, reduced by the period of detention," said the Prosecutor's Office during the demand hearing at the South Jakarta District Court on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Prosecutors suspect that Kuat Ma'ruf knew about the planned murder of Brigadier J orchestrated by Ferdy Sambo.

"This information is consistent with the testimonies of Benny Ali and Susanto Haris from the Provos, who come from two different institutions and had no prior communication, making it impossible for the defendant Kuat Maruf to not know about and be involved in the taking of Yosua Hutabarat's life," said the prosecutor.

These testimonies were further supported by the testimony of a polygraph expert or lie detector test. Based on this, the prosecutor stated that Kuat was suspected of lying when he claimed not to have seen Ferdy Sambo shoot Yosua.

"It can be concluded that the defendant Kuat Ma'ruf was involved in the planning of taking the life of Yosua Hutabarat," said the prosecutor.
