LRT Trial Postponed Again, Erick Thohir Reveals the Reason

Dream - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, ensured that the Jabodebek LRT trial will continue between August and October 2023. The trial schedule has been postponed several times.

"Wait for the process, make sure that between August and October we do this so that it can run and I think it's ready," Erick said at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises office, Tuesday, August 1, 2023.

Erick stated that the reason for the postponement of the Jabodebek LRT trial is because safety trials are still needed. As conveyed by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi to him for rechecking.

"But yesterday, Mr. Budi contacted me and said 'let's check again,' and I agreed because it concerns passenger safety," he said.

He considers this important because it concerns human safety, especially the Jabodebek LRT system that uses automatic driverless trains that can create fear among passengers.

"Do you know that the LRT now runs without a driver? Are you afraid? But many are afraid, so let's test it. Are you afraid, ma'am? The train runs by itself? It's scary, right? This perception can be formed if there is no safety trial as much as possible. Yesterday we conducted trials continuously, it's okay because it concerns human safety," he explained.

Safety trials are also conducted to serve the public well, so that there is no blame game. According to him, checking is a common practice in digitalization.

"So that the public is served well, so that there is no blame game. Check and balance and cross check are common, digitalization encourages information openness, and promotes transparency in the financial system," he explained.

For your information, the Jabodebek LRT trial was temporarily halted from July 17 to July 20, 2023. And it was planned to reopen for invitations on July 25 and for the general public on July 29. However, these plans were postponed again.
