Muhammadiyah Sets June 28, 2023, When is Idul Adha According to the Government and NU?

In addition to deciding the Idul Adha holiday, PP Muhammadiyah also determined that the 1st of Zulhijah 1444 H falls on Monday, June 19, 2023, and the Day of Arafah or the 9th of Zulhijah 1444 H falls on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

PP Muhammadiyah stated that on Sunday, 29th of Zulkaidah 1444 H or June 18, 2023, the conjunction before Zulhijah 1444 H occurred at 11:39:47 WIB, the moon's altitude at sunset in Yogyakarta (f = -07° 48' LS and l = 110° 21' BT) = +01° 00' 25?2; (the crescent moon has appeared).

Meanwhile, until now, the government and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) have not determined the date of Idul Adha 2023.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) will hold the early Zulhijah crescent sighting in 99 locations in Indonesia.

The result of the crescent sighting is one of the references in determining the time of Idul Adha 1444 H.

After that, Kemenag will hold the isbat session to determine the Day of Idul Adha 1444 Hijriah on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Jakarta.

" The early Zulhijah isbat session will be held on Sunday, June 18, 2023, or coinciding with the 29th of Zulkaidah," said Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Sharia Development at Kemenag, Adib, on Monday, June 12, 2023.

Different from Muhammadiyah

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah, Abdul Mu'ti, said that the calculation results from the Tarjih and Tajdid Council of PP Muhammadiyah for Idul Adha 1444 Hijriah may differ from Kemenag's.

Kemenag, which uses the MABIMS criteria in determining the beginning of the Hijri month, states that the criteria for the beginning of the month are when the altitude of the crescent moon is 3 degrees and the elongation is 6.4 degrees.

This criteria is different from what Muhammadiyah follows, which uses the real calculation of the appearance of the crescent moon.

In Muhammadiyah's calculation, the altitude of the crescent moon on the 29th of Zulkaidah 1444 H is less than 3 degrees. This means it does not meet the MABIMS criteria.

Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah states that the 1st of Zulhijah 1444 H falls on Monday, June 19, 2023, so Idul Adha falls on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

Based on this, it is highly likely that the Kemenag Isbat Session will determine that Idul Adha falls on Thursday, June 29, 2023.
