The Story of Prophet Isaac, the Righteous Son of Prophet Abraham and Born from a 90-Year-Old Mother

Dream – Prophet Isaac is the son of Prophet Abraham and his wife, Sarah. Prophet Isaac is the brother of Prophet Ishmael, with a 14-year age difference. At the time of Isaac's birth, Prophet Abraham was already 100 years old.

At that time, the Angels Gabriel, Michael, and Israfil visited Prophet Abraham's house in the form of men. They came to deliver the good news that Sarah would soon conceive and give birth to a child. The baby to be conceived would later be named Isaac.

This news made Sarah initially disbelieve it because she realized that she was no longer young. Sarah was known to be 90 years old and Prophet Abraham was 100 years old.

The story of Prophet Isaac is clearly narrated in the Hadith which mentions that Prophet Muhammad SAW also praised Prophet Isaac as narrated by Bukhari and Muslim as follows:

الكَرِيمُ، ابْنُ الكَرِيمِ، ابْنِ الكَرِيمِ، ابْنِ الكَرِيمِ يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ

Meaning: “O noble son, noble son, noble son is Yusuf son of Ya'qub, son of Ishaq, son of Ibrahim.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim).

Before the birth of Prophet Ishaq, it was reported that the child of Prophet Ibrahim would later become a righteous figure. So the happiness of Prophet Ibrahim and Siti Sarah became even greater.

Appointed as a Prophet at the Age of 40

The child of Prophet Ibrahim, namely Ishaq, was also appointed by Allah SWT to become a Prophet. At that time, the age of Prophet Ishaq was 40. And Allah SWT appointed Prophet Ishaq as a Prophet when he was in Canaan, Palestine, precisely in the city of Hebron.

Allah SWT explained this through His words in Surah An-Nisa verse 163 as follows:

۞ اِنَّآ اَوْحَيْنَآ اِلَيْكَ كَمَآ اَوْحَيْنَآ اِلٰى نُوْحٍ وَّالنَّبِيّٖنَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهٖۚ وَاَوْحَيْنَآ اِلٰٓى اِبْرٰهِيْمَ وَاِسْمٰعِيْلَ وَاِسْحٰقَ وَيَعْقُوْبَ وَالْاَسْبَاطِ وَعِيْسٰى وَاَيُّوْبَ وَيُوْنُسَ وَهٰرُوْنَ وَسُلَيْمٰنَ ۚوَاٰتَيْنَا دَاوٗدَ زَبُوْرًاۚ

Meaning: "Indeed, We have revealed to you (Muhammad) as We revealed to Nuh and the prophets after him, and We revealed (also) to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishak, Yakub, and his descendants; Isa, Ayyub, Yunus, Harun, and Sulaiman. And We have given the Zabur to Dawud." (Surah An-Nisa: 163).

Isaac AS Married to a Relative

When Prophet Abraham was already old, but his son, Prophet Isaac, had not yet married. This caused worry in the heart of Prophet Abraham. It was feared that Prophet Isaac would marry a woman who did not have the same faith.

But in the end, Prophet Abraham married his son to a woman who still had a family relationship, namely Rafiqah bintin Batuwael bin Nahur.

Unexpectedly, the same thing happened to Prophet Isaac and his wife as what happened to Prophet Abraham and Sarah. His wife also experienced infertility, which made Prophet Isaac and his wife tirelessly pray to Allah SWT for offspring.

The Descendants of Prophet Isaac are the Beginning of the Israelites

After waiting and praying to Allah SWT, Prophet Isaac and Rafiqah were finally blessed with twin children. One of his sons was even a Prophet, namely Prophet Jacob. And from the descendants of Prophet Jacob, the Israelites emerged. Meanwhile, Prophet Jacob's twin, Lishu, is said to be the beginning of the Roman nation.

Prophet Isaac himself passed away at the age of 180 and was buried in Makfilah Hebron, Palestine. He was buried together with his father and mother, Prophet Abraham and Sarah. It is important for Dream friends to know that a mosque called the Mosque of Abraham was also built in Makfilah.
