اللَّهُمَّجَعَلْ سَرِيْرَتِيْ خَيْرًا مِنْ عَلاَنِيَتِيْ وَجَعَلْ عَلاَنِيَتِيْ صَالِحَةً.

Allahummaj'al sariirotii khoiron min 'alaaniyati waj'al 'alaaniyatii sholihah.

Meaning: "O Allah, make my inner state better than my outward state and make my outward state good." (HR At-Tirmidzi)

Here are some ways to maintain the heart in Islam that you need to know:

Always Remember Allah SWT

The first way to maintain the heart is to always remember Allah SWT. For example, by performing obligatory prayers, performing voluntary prayers, remembrance, and other worship recommended in Islam. So, keep our hearts far away from envy and jealousy, which can actually harm ourselves and bring no benefit at all.

Avoid Desires and Anger

The second way is to avoid desires and anger. To keep the heart away from desires and anger is by fasting. Whether it is voluntary fasting or obligatory fasting like Ramadan fasting.

The Prophet Muhammad said:

"Do not get angry." He repeated it several times and said: "Do not get angry." (HR. Bukhari)

Say Good Things or Stay Silent

The next way to maintain the heart is by saying good things or staying silent. Speak only as necessary, with clear intentions and without lying. Speaking good things or remaining silent can prevent us from doing things that are not beneficial and keep us away from hypocrisy.

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلْتَنظُرْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ لِغَدٍ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Meaning: "O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Aware of what you do." (Surah Al-Hashr: 18)
