Dream - Babies have soft skin, but skin problems often occur in their first year of life because it is very sensitive. Confused about how to care for newborn baby skin? Here are some tips to keep your baby's skin smooth and healthy.
"Babies should not be exposed to direct sunlight for a long time. When going outside, make sure their skin is protected, even if the weather is cloudy."
It is recommended that babies under 6 months old are not given sunscreen, but are placed in a shaded area and given a hat and loose clothing that covers the skin. Limit sun exposure between 10 am and 4 pm. Ensure that the baby stays hydrated with breast milk or formula. Babies over 6 months old can be given sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15.
Not all babies need moisturizer. Dry skin in babies usually goes away on its own. If the skin is very dry or cracked, use products based on petroleum jelly and avoid lotions with fragrances or dyes. Natural oils such as olive oil, coconut oil, or sunflower seed oil can be used, but sometimes they can worsen dry or eczema conditions.
"Babies do not need to be bathed every day. Use a soft towel and warm water to clean their hands, face, and genitals. Do it immediately when those body parts are dirty or feel sticky."
Nails of babies are very small but quite sharp. Trim or file the baby's nails every week or more frequently. Use a non-metal nail file or special baby nail scissors. Do this while the baby is sleeping or very calm to avoid injury.
Rashes often appear when babies overheat, especially in skin folds or areas that frequently rub against clothing. Keep the baby's skin cool and avoid oil-based products. Taking a cold bath or using a soft towel can help reduce itching and rashes. Contact a doctor if the rash does not improve within 3 days, if the skin appears infected, or if the baby has a fever of 37°C or higher. Source: Healthline / Report: Aykaputri Amalia Rahmani
