During this vacation, initially he will return to Aceh, his hometown, following the desire of his son who wants to play with his cousin.

"Fatih is already excited because our plan was to go back to Aceh together (mom, younger sibling, and older sibling), but due to certain circumstances, we canceled the plan. Finally, after considering carefully, we gave Fatih 2 options: to have a vacation in Jakarta while sightseeing and staycation, or to go back alone and be entrusted on the plane. Fatih remained firm in wanting to have a vacation in Aceh," wrote the mother in a video uploaded on Instagram. Finally, after considering and asking many people who have entrusted their children on a flight before, they gathered the courage to do so."

Sheila also shared her first experience of letting her child fly alone at such a young age to Aceh, using one of the airlines.

To purchase tickets, they must be bought directly and cannot be done online because there is some information that needs to be verified in person for security reasons. Sheila bought Garuda Indonesia airline tickets directly at one of the malls in Jakarta. When purchasing the tickets, the name of the child's guardian and their data must be included. There is also an additional fee for accompanying the child during the journey. The cost depends on the type of flight.

On the day of the flight, the son was so excited. While the mother was quite worried because it was the first time the child flew alone. For this check, there is a special counter called "Special Needs Assistance".

Parents still accompany during check-in, put the luggage and the child is given a special necklace by the officer. They then proceed to the gate accompanied by an officer.

"After being put on a necklace, Fatih took a selfie with airport personnel (possibly standard operating procedure for the staff), and then we walked to the boarding gate. When we reached the gate, parents were not allowed to enter and would continue to be accompanied," wrote the mother. Her son then entered the plane through the priority lane. While on the plane, the child was under the supervision of the flight attendant."

Through whatsapp, the mother then received a report that her son was already on the plane and accompanied by a flight attendant.

Upon arriving in Aceh, his son was immediately picked up by an officer and accompanied until the baggage retrieval. The grandfather, who was listed as the pick-up person, was already waiting. Before retrieving the baggage and being picked up by his grandfather, a data verification was conducted by showing the ID card and signature to match the data, followed by taking a photo with the pick-up person and the officer.

Sheila's experience may be a consideration for parents who want to train their children to fly alone. Each airline usually offers this service but with an additional cost. Interested?
