Bananas, with their natural sweetness, are often considered a healthy snack that is easy to give to babies. However, there is a strong reason why giving bananas to babies under 6 months of age is prohibited.

Quoted from Liputan6.com, Titis Prawitasari, SpA(K), Chairperson of the Nutritional Coordination and Metabolic Disease Working Unit of IDAI, warns that giving bananas to babies under 6 months old can cause the formation of a benzoar. Benzoar is undigested food mass that forms in the digestive tract.
"So he closed the digestive tract. So there is a blockage, you know," said Titis. This condition can be very dangerous, causing blockage in the digestive tract that requires medical intervention."
"Risk of Choking"
Apart from the risk of benzoar, infants who are too young do not have good ability to chew and swallow solid food. The texture of bananas that are too rough and solid can cause choking in babies. This is very dangerous because the small airway of the baby can easily become blocked.
"Can Trigger Infection"
Titis also noted that some mothers try to give bananas by chewing them first before giving them to the baby. This practice can be dangerous because there is a possibility of infection transfer from the mother to the baby. Babies under 6 months old do not have a fully developed immune system, making them more vulnerable to infections.
"6 Months Should Be Given Exclusive Breastfeeding"
"Infants under 6 months of age should only be given exclusive breastfeeding. At this age, the baby's ability is only to suck and swallow. They are not yet able to chew, including bananas, which are often considered soft and harmless.
