Dream - Everyone has their own habits when they wake up. Some immediately grab their phone, head to the bathroom, or drink water. But is there anyone who starts their morning habit by first reading the prayer for waking up?
Reading the prayer upon waking up is a practice that has been taught by Prophet Muhammad SAW to his people. The prayer upon waking up is practiced as an expression of gratitude to Allah SWT for still being given the opportunity to live and go through the day. Not only praying, there are also etiquettes that should be followed by Muslims when waking up. Muslims need to practice these etiquettes after waking up so that they can become a daily habit.
The following is the translation of the 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "Praying upon waking up should be taught to children from an early age. The habit of reciting prayers after waking up will be carried into adulthood. This is why parents need to encourage their children to recite prayers when they wake up."
The translation of the text is: "Praise be to Allah who brings us back to life after causing our death, and to Him we will be resurrected."
Islamic teachings always teach the values of goodness to its followers, even in simple things like waking up. Islam provides guidelines for proper etiquette that should be followed. Implementing etiquette when waking up is highly recommended because there are virtues behind every command in Islam. Here are some etiquette when waking up that should be practiced by every Muslim:
The first etiquette is to get used to waking up early to perform the dawn prayer. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) prayed to Allah to bless his people in the morning. "O Allah, bless my people in the morning." (HR. Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Tirmidzi, Ibn Majah, and Ibn Hibban)
The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The next etiquette is to recite the prayer upon waking up as explained earlier. This prayer is offered as an expression of gratitude to Allah SWT for being awakened from sleep. "That Prophet Muhammad, upon waking up, recited Alhamdulillahil ladzi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wailaihin nusyur (All praise is due to Allah who has given me life after causing me to die, and to Him is the resurrection [gathering]).""
The next etiquette is to wipe the face with both hands. This is as explained by Imam Nawawi and Al-Hafizh Ibnu Hajar through the following hadith: "The Prophet SAW woke up from sleep, then sat down while wiping the traces of sleep from his face with his hands." (HR. Muslim)
The following is the translation of the provided 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The next etiquette after waking up is to use siwak and wash hands three times. Siwak has been used since ancient times before the discovery of toothbrush and toothpaste. Siwak or miswak is a stick or twig that comes from the arak tree. This tree is classified as a shrub that grows abundantly in the Middle East region. "When the Prophet Muhammad SAW woke up at night, he cleaned his mouth with siwak." (Muttafaq 'alaih)"
In addition, wash your hands before doing anything else when you wake up. "When you wake up, do not dip your hands into a container before washing them three times, because you do not know where your hands were last night." (HR. Bukhari Muslim)
Istinsar is to release or spurt water from the nose after previously inhaling the water (istinsyaq). Istinsar and istinsyaq are done during ablution, specifically when cleaning the nose. Inhale the ablution water briefly and then release it again. "When one of you wakes up from sleep, then perform istinsar three times, for indeed, the devil spends the night in the end (cavity) of his nose." (Muttafaq 'alaih)
