Dream - Allah SWT provides many concessions in worship for His servants, including those who are on a long journey. One of the concessions given when traveling a certain distance is to combine the five daily prayers. Of course, combining the obligatory prayers is done based on the predetermined conditions. A Muslim, whether male or female, is allowed to combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers, either by combining them in advance or combining them at the end. Combining the Dhuhr and Asr prayers is done if there is a concern that the journey will take a long time and they may miss the Asr prayer.

However, sometimes Muslims who have combined the Asr prayer with Dhuhr prayer arrive at their destination before the Asr prayer time ends. So, does the combined Asr prayer become invalid? Should they still perform the Asr prayer? Quoting from the Shariah consultation page, there is a principle mentioned by Ibn Qudamah in the book Al Mughni to explain this case. "Whoever performs a mandatory act while in a state of excuse, then the act is not invalidated when the excuse is removed." (Ibnu Qudamah in the book Al Mughni) This statement can be analogized to when someone performs prayer with tayammum because they cannot find water. However, when their prayer is already finished, suddenly it starts to rain."

Therefore, this does not make the prayer in question invalid. If you arrive at your destination and there is still time for the Asr prayer, even though you have already combined it with Dhuhr prayer beforehand, then your prayer is not invalidated. There is no need to repeat the prayer.

"According to the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW"

Apparently, this rule is based on a hadith from the Companion Abu Said Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, which was narrated by Abu Daud, Ad Darimi, and authenticated by Al Albani.

"There were two people on a journey, until it was time for prayer, but they did not have water. Then both of them performed tayammum with clean soil, and prayed. After that, they found water, while there was still time for prayer. Then one of them performed ablution and repeated his prayer, while the other did not repeat his prayer."

Both then met the Prophet (Messenger of Allah Muhammad SAW) and told him what they had experienced. So the Prophet SAW said to the one who did not repeat his prayer, "What you have done is in accordance with the sunnah and your prayer has fulfilled your obligation." Then he SAW said to the one who repeated his prayer, "For you, there are two rewards."

"Thus, when someone has arrived home, their status is no longer a traveler. However, they are not obligated to repeat the prayers that have already been combined. Because when they are on a journey, they are allowed to combine prayers. So, when their traveler status has disappeared, it does not mean that the prayers they have combined are invalidated."

Ibnu Qudamah said: "When a person combines 2 prayers at the early time (jamak taqdim), and then the excuse that allows combining is no longer present after performing both prayers and before the next prayer time begins, then the prayer is valid, and there is no obligation to repeat the second prayer at its designated time. Because the prayer is performed validly, it fulfills its obligation."
