Dream - The mountainous region of Southern Turkey becomes a silent witness to the entrapment of 174 cable car passengers who risked their lives on the ropes of the ride. A search and rescue operation was carried out by the SAR team through the air.
The debatable incident lasted almost a whole day, around 23 hours, when one cable car cabin hit a pole and broke. One passenger was reported dead while seven others were severely injured when they fell onto the rocks below.
The operation involved a total of 607 search and rescue personnel and 10 helicopters, including a team from the Turkish emergency response agency, AFAD. A number of Coast Guard, fire fighting, and mountain rescue teams from various regions of Turkey were also deployed to assist the users who were still inside the cable car, which had to be stopped operating due to the incident.
For the victims, who were trapped in the Tunektepe cable car outside the Mediterranean city of Antalya, surely felt that this was a tense moment. Helpless, they had to endure at a high altitude without any hope of immediate rescue.
"The night was terrifying, we were very scared. There were children with us, they fainted," said Hatice Polat, a survivor quoted from Yahoo.com."
Hatice felt very devastated being there for seven hours. "The train was shaking every second, we were constantly in fear. ... It was very traumatic, I don't know how we will get through this trauma," added Hatice Polat.
