Galaxy Properties, a local real estate company, quickly moved to prevent the destruction of this historic building by purchasing the property.

However, uniquely, they made a bizarre plan to move this building and promised to place it on a new foundation. The purpose is to provide space for the construction of an apartment complex.

The owner of the company, Sheldon Rushton, claimed that they successfully moved Elmwood 30 feet using Ivory soap. "We did not use wheels like we usually do, Ivory soap gives us a smooth friction. This house weighs 220 tons and was built in 1826, so it is very fragile, we have to be careful," he concluded.

According to him, Elmwood will be relocated once the new foundation is ready. This marks an amazing milestone in the effort to preserve the historic heritage of Halifax city.
