Dinocephalosaurus, or also known by the name Dinocephalosaurus Orientalis, is a reptile species that used to inhabit the territory of China in the past. This species lived in that area during the Triassic period, around 240 million years ago. Dinocephalosaurus Orientalis attracts attention due to the existence of seven perfectly preserved specimens. Recently, paleontologists have started discussing and formulating a more detailed description of Dinocephalosaurus Orientalis.
Dinocephalosaurus Orientalis, which originated from the region now known as China, lived during the Triassic period approximately 240 million years ago. Known for its long body reaching up to 6 meters or about 20 feet, this reptile has a distinctive feature, namely an extremely long neck consisting of a total of 32 separate vertebrae. With a greater number of vertebrae in its neck and torso, Dinocephalosaurus orientalis is a unique reptile, resembling a snake in appearance.
Say Dr. Fraser
Dinocephalosaurus orientalis was first described in 2003. However, as time passed, the discovery of additional specimens of this reptile became more complete, allowing experts to provide a more comprehensive description of this creature. Professor Li Chun, a paleontologist at the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, said, "Of all the extraordinary discoveries we made during the Triassic period in Guizhou province, the discovery of Dinocephalosaurus orientalis can be considered the most remarkable."
