"Dream - South Korean Youtuber Daud Kim is back in the spotlight after admitting to buying land in Incheon City to build a mosque. "My dream will come true," he wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Initially, this idea was well-received by netizens. However, several comments warned everyone to be cautious. In addition to highlighting donations directed to a personal account, many described the track record of the former singer previously known as Jay Kim."
As reported by Koreaboo, Daud Kim started his singing career on YouTube by uploading song covers and original works before transitioning to Korean lifestyle content.
In 2019, he announced his conversion to Islam and his content began uploading Islamic content. In 2022, Kim became headline news for being accused of converting for content and for a suspected attempted rape case involving a woman that resurfaced. He was also reported to have been seen clubbing after converting to Islam, and his wife Mia shared a photo of bruises allegedly caused by violence from Kim. At that time, his wife accused the 41-year-old man of fleeing to avoid the divorce process. With his recent announcement, those accusations have resurfaced, and many Muslims are urging not to contribute to Kim.
Ask mentions the name of the YouTuber convert, Farah Lee, a Malaysian influencer who lives in South Korea, sharing a post about why collecting donations for mosques in Korea is not possible. Among several reasons, she argues that according to the country's law, raising donations through personal accounts is illegal, and if fraud occurs, refunding the money will be very difficult. Influencer Ayana Jihye Moon also urges not to donate to personal accounts and suggests that those who want to donate should only do so through officially registered organizations, such as the Korean Muslim Federation.

Politician activist Austin Bashore also warned the public by recounting his interaction with Daud Kim at the Free Palestine event in Seoul. According to Bashore, Kim took two photos and one video of himself, pretending to participate in the action, and left. It is not easy to build a mosque in South Korea. Kim once shared a YouTube video on October 16, 2021, telling the story of Muslim students in Daegu being strongly rejected by the surrounding residents to build a mosque. Then in 2022, the former personnel of the SM Entertainment project group, SM The Ballad, shared the story of interviewing the Muslim students.
When arriving at the location, he showed many rejection banners that contained offensive words. In one building, even the head of a pig was displayed. The residents there blocked access to the construction site and did not allow the workers to enter. "The construction of the mosque that started with lies, we will not be fooled for the second time," wrote one banner. "Immediately revoke the building permit to prevent the Islamization of our residential area," reads another writing.
Meanwhile, Daud Kim, through his Instagram account @jaehan9192, announced that the construction plan for the mosque in Incheon had to be canceled. Daud explained that the cancellation was due to the emergence of issues created by a number of Korean Muslim influencers. "There were many oppositions and threats, and suddenly the owner of the land in Incheon asked to cancel the contract. Astagfirullah. So... this is canceled," wrote Daud Kim.
"Although forced to cancel the construction of the mosque, Daud Kim emphasized that he has found a way to realize his desire. He said he will show it after returning to Korea. 'Wait a moment. I never give up. Everything is for Allah,' he wrote."
