Dream - Inmate of the Class I Cipinang Penitentiary (Lapas) in East Jakarta with the initials MA (21) extorted a junior high school student using the love scamming modus operandi. The Head of Public Relations of the West Java Regional Police, Commissioner Pol Jules Abraham Abast, stated that MA extorted a teenager with the initials AN (13) by threatening to spread the victim's explicit photos and videos in a WhatsApp group.
The incident began when the victim, AN, met a man through the social media platform Instagram. The account owner, @cakr_alv, introduced himself as C. Communication continued through the WhatsApp application. "Switched to WhatsApp (WA) around June 2024," said Jules, as quoted from liputan6.com on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Jules said, AN initially did not introduce themselves to their parents. Their relationship was known after their parents received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. The message was sent on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
AN then admitted to having sent nude photos and videos to the owner of the account @cakra_alv. Jules said that the perpetrator, MA, extorted the victim's parents by demanding Rp600,000. If they refused, AN's photos and videos would be distributed.
"Not only that, he continued, the perpetrator also created a WhatsApp group consisting of the victim and four of his friends. Moreover, the profile picture of the WhatsApp group used a nude photo of AN. 'The perpetrator kept contacting and sending WhatsApp messages to ask for money, promising to delete the obscene photos and videos of AN. Then, his father complied with the perpetrator's request by transferring Rp100,000,' he said."
Regarding this incident, MA is charged with the Law and Article suspected of a criminal offense of morality as referred to in Article 45 paragraph (1) Jo Article 27 paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Law No. 1 of 2024 regarding the second amendment to the Indonesian Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Transaction Information (ITE) with a minimum imprisonment of 5 years and a maximum of 15 years and a fine of up to Rp5 billion. Separately, the Head of Class I Cipinang Prison, E.P. Prayer Manik confirmed the incident. He claimed that they immediately took quick action to conduct an initial examination of the suspect MA. "The examination was conducted on June 25, 2024," said Prayer.
Prayer conveys, the perpetrator of the MA is subjected to initial sanctions in the form of disciplinary punishment for violating the rules that affect the fulfillment of the rights of the relevant Inmates such as reduction of sentence (remission) and other rights.
He added, MA has been transferred to the Special Class II.A Karanganyar Nusakambangan Prison since Sunday, June 30, 2024. Regarding the use of cell phones in prison, Prayer said that the perpetrator MA allegedly bought it from other inmates. "From the information we obtained, it turns out that he got this cellphone from other inmates as well. He bought it, but I'm not sure about the exact price. Meaning, he got the cellphone from inmates who are about to be released, who are about to be free," he said.
"Prayer affirms that they routinely conduct raids on prohibited items inside the prison, both independently and in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies. They promise to strengthen body and baggage inspections for every visitor entering the prison and carry out search activities in each block and living quarters. Source: Liputan6.com"
