Dream - Islam requires every Muslim to perform obligatory prayers five times a day. These obligatory prayers consist of Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. The position of prayer in Islam is likened to the pillar of religion, and it will be the first deed to be accounted for on the Day of Judgment.
Among those five times, the dawn prayer (sholat subuh) is the shortest because it consists of only two rakaats. The procedure for the dawn prayer is the same as other obligatory prayers. However, in some Muslim communities, the difference between the dawn prayer and other obligatory prayers is the inclusion of the qunut prayer.
The qunut prayer is recited in the second rak'ah, while standing after the ruku' movement and before the sujud. The movement while reciting qunut varies, but mostly it is done by raising both hands. Reciting the qunut prayer is one of the recommended practices (sunnah muakkad) for Muslims.
Apart from performing the dawn prayer, the qunut prayer is also recited a lot during the witir prayer in the latter part of Ramadan. Some people also recite it during other obligatory prayers, which is called qunut nazilah. So, how is the recitation of the qunut prayer? Here is an explanation quoted from various sources, as reported by Dream.
Doa Qunut Prayer of Fajr: O Allah, we seek your help and forgiveness, and we believe in You and rely on You. We praise You and do not disbelieve in You. We forsake and abandon those who disobey You. O Allah, we worship You alone and pray and prostrate to You, and to You, we strive. We seek refuge in Your mercy and fear Your punishment. Verily, Your punishment will befall those who deserve it.
Translated: "Meaning: O Allah, we seek Your help and forgiveness, and we believe in You and rely on You. We are grateful for all the goodness You have bestowed upon us, and we do not deny You. We disassociate ourselves from those who are arrogant and disobedient to You. O Allah, we worship only You, we serve only You, we prostrate only to You, and we compete in doing good deeds only for You. We hope for Your mercy and compassion, and we fear Your punishment. Indeed, Your punishment for the disbelievers is severe."
