Evidence from the Quran

The end-of-year prayer is recited after Maghrib prayer at the end of the year on the 29th or 30th of Dhu al-Hijjah. Meanwhile, the beginning-of-year prayer is recited after Maghrib prayer precisely on the 1st of Muharram. As for the explanation of the months in the Hijri year, it was mentioned in Surah At-Taubah, verse 36. "Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve months in the Book of Allah, the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them. And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they fight against you collectively. And know that Allah is with the righteous [who fear Him]."

"Inna 'iddatasy-syuhūri 'indallāhi ṣinā 'asyara syahran fī kitābillāhi yauma khalaqas-samāwāti wal-arḍa minhā arba'atun ḥurum(un), żālikad-dīnul-qayyim(u), falā ta'ṭlimū fīhinna anfusakum wa qātilul-musyrikīna kāffatan kamā yuqātilūnakum kāffah(tan), wa'lamū annallāha ma'al-muttaqīn(a)." Translation: "Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve months in Allah's book, the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them. And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they fight against you collectively. And know that Allah is with the righteous."

Meaning: "The number of months in the sight of Allah is twelve (in a year)- so ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are sacred: that is the straight usage. So wrong not yourselves therein, and fight the Pagans all together as they fight you all together. But know that Allah is with those who restrain themselves."

"Prayer for the End of the Hijri Year"

Prayers to welcome 1 Muharram can be practiced through the end of the Hijri year prayer, which is recited three times before Maghrib. اللّهُمَّ مَا عَمِلْتُ فِيْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ مَمَّا نَهَيْتَنِيْ عَنْهُ وَلَمْ تُرْضِهُ وَنَسِيْتُهُ وَلَمْ تَنْسَهُ وَحَلِمْتُ عَلَيَّ بَعْدَ قُدْرَتِكَ عَلَيَّ عُقُوْبَتِي وَدَعْوَتِنِيْ الَّتِي التَّوْبَةَ بَعْدَ جُرْأَتِيْ عَلَى مَعْصِيَتِكَ اللّهُمَّ فَاِنِّيْ اَسْتَغْفِرُكَ فَاغْفِرْ لِيْ وَمَا عَمِلْتُ مِنْ عَمَلٍ تَرْضَاهُ وَوَعَدْتَنِيْ اَلثَّوَابَ فَاَسْاَلُكَ اللَّهُمَّ يَا ذَا الْجُوْدِ وَالْكَرَمِ اِنْ تَقَبَّلَهُ مِنِّيْ وَلَا تَقْطَعْ رَجَائِيْ مِنْكَ وَصَلِّيْ اللَّهُ عَلَيْ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى الِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلِّم

"Latin Prayer"

"O Allah, whatever I have done in this year that You have forbidden me from, I did not repent from it, nor did I feel remorse for it, nor did I forget it. And You have exposed me after Your power over my punishment, and You called me to repentance after my disobedience to You. O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness, so forgive me for what I have done in it (the year) that You are pleased with, and for what You have promised as a reward. O Allah, I ask You, O Most Generous, O Possessor of Grace and Generosity, to accept it from me and not to cut off my hope in You, O Most Generous. And may peace and blessings be upon our master Muhammad and his family and companions."

"Latin Prayers"

Allahumma antal-abadiyyul-qadiimul-awwal. Wa 'alaa fadhlikal-'azhimi wujuudikal-mu'awwal. Wa haadzaa 'aamun jadiidun qad aqbal. Nas'alukal 'ishmata fiihi minasy-syaithaani wa auliyaa-ihii wa junuudihii. Wal'auna 'alaa haadzhihin-nafsil-ammarati bis-suu-i. Wal-isytighaala bimaa yuqarribunii ilaika zulfa. Yaa dzal-jalaali wal-ikraam. Wa sallallaahu 'alaa sayyidina Muhammadin wa 'alaa 'aalihi wa shahbihii wa sallam. Translation: O Allah, You are the Eternal, the Ancient. And upon Your immense grace, the first existence. And this is a new year that has arrived. We ask for protection from Satan, his allies, and his armies during it. And we seek refuge from the evil of this commanding self. And we are occupied with what brings us closer to You. O Possessor of Majesty and Generosity. And may Allah's blessings be upon our master Muhammad and his family and companions.

Meaning of Prayer

"O Allah, You are the eternal, the first, and the beginning. And only through Your Great Grace and Your Generosity do we seek protection in this year from the temptations of Satan, his followers, and his armies. We ask for assistance in overcoming the desires of anger that lead to evil, so that we may be occupied with deeds that bring us closer to You, O Being of Majesty and Glory."

"May Allah always bestow His mercy and blessings upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW, and upon his family and companions."
