In the expedition exploring caves in Germany, a group of archaeologists successfully discovered a rare collection of artifacts and ancient human skeletons, including the skeleton of a cave bear. More than 10,000 animal bones and various stone tools were found in the Endsee cave, as announced by the Office for the Preservation of State Monuments in Bavaria on December 11. The archaeology team conducted an intensive search in an area of approximately 3,900 square meters to find these artifacts and skeletons.
In these discoveries, archaeologists also found seven fragments of cave bear jaws that are still in intact condition. When combined with other bone remains in the discovery area, those fragments unite to form almost the entire skeleton of a cave bear.
The following is the translation of the text from 'Bahasa' to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "Archaeologists use radiocarbon dating techniques to determine that the bones are estimated to be from the period between 45,000 BC and 25,000 BC. The cave may have been a place where cave bears used to rest and take care of their cubs."
According to Britannica, cave bears, which are now extinct, had a body weight ranging from 4 tons to nearly 1,000 tons. Key characteristics such as a large head and distinctive teeth indicate that cave bears were herbivorous animals. The expert team also found remains of other animal bones, such as cave hyenas, wild horses, mammoths, rhinoceroses, and wolves, along with stone tools. This suggests that the cave was likely also used by ancient humans or Neanderthals.
"Some remaining animal bones believed to have been left by hunters show traces of burning and signs of processing."
Based on archaeological research, the tools found inside the cave are estimated to date back to a period between around 300,000 BC and 45,000 BC.
Currently, it is still not known exactly how the interaction between humans and bears occurs, as well as the sequence of cave usage. The Endsee cave is located approximately 531 km southwest of Berlin.
