"Dream - Police in Thailand have arrested a man who allegedly beheaded his wife with a meat cleaver. The man is said to have experienced hallucinations and claims to have killed a ghost, not his wife."
"Officers from the Laplae Police Station on Sunday, July 28, 2024, are searching for a man named Narin (49) for the murder of his wife named Phattara."
According to Thaiger, Phattara's headless body was found outside, while his head was found in a chicken coop near the house. The village head of the area said that neighbors heard the couple involved in a fierce argument after drinking alcohol together. Phattara was heard screaming that he couldn't breathe and then everything went silent.
"The neighbor then reported the issue to the village head who immediately rushed to their house to warn them to lower the volume."
"When they arrived at their house, the village chief was shocked to see Narin beheading his wife with a meat knife outside their home. The village chief chose to hide because he was afraid for his life, and reported the incident to the police."
The police then arrested Narin the next day when he returned home due to hunger. Narin tested positive for methamphetamine, also known as Yaba, and was under the influence of alcohol before committing the murder.
The translation of "Kerasukan hantu" to English is "Possessed by a ghost."
Narin revealed his reason for committing that heinous act was to drive away a ghost named Phee Ka. This ghost is widely known among the Thai community. The ghost is believed to possess humans and enjoys eating raw food. Narin claimed that there was a ghost possessing his wife, which is why he attacked her. He was convinced that the ghost might attack him if he did not act. After taking his wife's life, Narin expressed regret and apologized to his son.
The police have not yet disclosed the charges and official sentence against Narin. He is expected to be charged under Article 288 of the Penal Code for premeditated murder.
The possible penalties that may be imposed include the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment for 15 to 20 years. Because Narin used drugs, he also faces a prison sentence of up to one year, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both according to Article 162 of the Narcotics Control Act: using category 1 drugs (methamphetamine).
