Dream - The month of Syawal will soon come to an end and be replaced by the month of Dzulqa'dah. The upcoming month is also very special and noble. Therefore, it would be good if the month of Dzulqa'dah is filled with various recommended practices in Islam. Through these practices, there will be abundant rewards and other virtues that Dream's friends will obtain. So, it would be a pity to let it pass by. Dream's friends need to know that the month of Dzulqa'dah holds great significance for Muslims worldwide.

Referring to the Hijri calendar, on Thursday, 9 May 2024, in the afternoon, it is still in the end of the month of Shawwal. However, on Thursday of that date, at Maghrib or Friday night, it already shows the date of 1 Dhu al-Qa'dah 1445 H/2024. Now, here are the practices and virtues in the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah that you need to know as summarized by Dream through various sources.

The month of Dzulqa'dah is the beginning of the four sacred months (al-Asyhur al-Hurum). The four months referred to are Dzulqa'dah, Dzulhijjah, Muharram, and Rajab. In the month of Dzulqa'dah, the Arabs in the past did not engage in warfare. As Allah SWT stated in Surah At-Taubah verse 36: "Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah [from] the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred (Dzulqa'dah, Dzulhijjah, Muharram, and Rajab)."

"The number of months according to Allah is indeed twelve months, as in the decree of Allah when He created the heavens and the earth, among them are four sacred months (Dzulqa'dah, Dzulhijjah, Muharram, and Rajab)."

The second virtue of the month of Dzulqa'dah is one of the three Hajj months, namely Shawwal, Dzulqa'dah, and the first ten days of Dzulhijjah. The Hajj pilgrimage performed outside of these months is not valid. Allah SWT says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 197: "The Hajj is [during] well-known months."

This is explained in the following hadith: 'Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) performed Umrah four times, all of them in the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah except for the Umrah he performed with his Hajj, which was one Umrah from Hudaibiyah, one Umrah the following year, one Umrah from Ji'ranah when distributing the spoils of the Battle of Hunain, and one more Umrah with his Hajj.' The month of Dzulqa'dah is a 30-night period mentioned in the words of Allah SWT through Surah Al-A'raf verse 142: "And We have promised Moses to give him the Torah after thirty nights (in the month of Dzulqa'dah), and We completed the number of nights with ten more nights (the first ten nights of the month of Dzulhijjah)."

then perfect is the time that has been determined by his Lord to be forty nights. And Moses said to his brother, Aaron, "Take my place in leading my people, and improve yourself and your people, and do not follow the path of those who cause corruption." (QS al-A'raf: 142)

In the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah, Muslims are encouraged to perform many acts of goodness. It is explained in the book Tafsir Al-Quran al-'Adhim by Imam Ibn Kathir, that in the sacred months, including the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah, there are various prohibitions that must be avoided and abandoned by the Muslim community. One of them is the prohibition of engaging in warfare.

Then also commit various sins. Well, the good deeds performed in the month of Dzulqa'dah will bring multiplied rewards. Meanwhile, if one commits sins, it will also bring multiplied sins.

"In the month of Dzulqa'dah, it is also recommended to perform many voluntary fasts. It is explained in the book I'anah ath Thalibin, that fasting in the sacred month (Dzulqa'dah) is included in the recommended voluntary fasts after Ramadan. Abu Bakar Ad Dimyati said, 'The most important month for fasting after Ramadan is Al-Asyhur al-Hurum. And, the most important among the four is the month of Muharram, Rajab, Dzulhijah, and then Dzulqa'dah.'"

The next recommended practice in the month of Dzulqa'dah is Umrah. During his lifetime, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed Umrah in the month of Dzulqa'dah. In a hadith narrated by Imam Bukhari from Anas bin Malik, it is stated: "The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed Umrah four times, all of them in the month of Dzulqa'dah except for the Umrah performed alongside his Hajj. These include one Umrah from Hudaibiyah, one Umrah in the following year, one Umrah from Ji'ranah when distributing the spoils of the Battle of Hunain, and one Umrah alongside his Hajj."
