Dream - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak as the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD) replacing General TNI Agus Subiyanto who is now the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces. The inauguration of KSAD was based on Presidential Decree No. 103/TNI/2023 regarding the dismissal and appointment of the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army. The inauguration ceremony was followed by the President Jokowi pinning the rank insignia on Letjen Maruli, followed by the oath-taking ceremony attended by the son-in-law of Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
"By the grace of God, I solemnly declare and promise that I will be loyal to the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, and will abide by all laws and regulations with utmost sincerity in my devotion to the nation and the state. That in carrying out my duties, I will uphold the ethics of my position, work to the best of my abilities, and with a sense of responsibility. That I will uphold the oath of a soldier," said Jokowi when reciting the oath of office."
The inauguration of Maruli also became the first moment for Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, to return to Indonesia after being treated for quite a long time in Singapore. Luhut, for the first time, also attended an official state event.
In that event, Luhut appeared standing beside Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto. There was a different sight from this former Commander of Kopassus. Luhut's body appeared thinner compared to his last appearance when accompanying Jokowi in inaugurating the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train on October 2, 2023.
"White Hair"
Luhut appeared wearing a black suit and a traditional cap called "peci". His hair appears white, which is different from his usual black color.
After the inauguration ceremony was over, Luhut was seen approaching Maruli and his daughter, Paulina Pandjaitan, to congratulate them.
Luhut appeared to embrace his daughter-in-law with tears streaming down his face. Some invited guests were also seen shaking hands with Luhut, who has recovered after undergoing treatment in Singapore.
As known, Luhut Pandjaitan had received treatment in Jakarta before being flown to a hospital in Singapore on October 10, 2023.
