Dream - Having a comfortable and aesthetic house is everyone's dream. Design and arrangement of the house are key factors in making us feel at home, especially if it is located in a narrow alley. Unfortunately, not many people are interested in building a house in a narrow alley due to limited access and terrain.
It is not the same with a house in a narrow alley located in Cipulir, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. The aesthetically designed house in that alley actually captures the world's attention and wins international awards.
Not taking it lightly, the house named 'The Twins' won the Architecture Masterpiece 2019 for the Green Architecture Category in Spain. In addition, this house, which was built from 2018 to 2019, also won the Small Architecture+ Small Living by People Choice at the Artichizer Award 2020.
The house was built by architecture and interior design consultant Delution, on a 70 square meter land with a building area of 85 square meters. It is considered somewhat impossible because this dwelling, which carries the concept of 'growing house', is built in a densely populated area.
Access to this house is only a narrow road approximately 1.5 meters wide that can only be passed by motorcycles or walking.
"Because it adopts the concept of a growing house, The Twins was built in three phases that were carried out gradually, costing Rp450 million in total. 'Phase one with a budget of Rp150 million, phase two which includes the construction of the roof spent Rp200 million, and the final phase cost Rp100 million,' said CEO of Delution, Muhammad Egha."
The concept of 'growing house' makes this house have two buildings with different sizes. These two 'houses' are connected by a glass door that can be opened at any time to create a more spacious versatile space.
One house consists of two bedrooms with a bathroom, a kitchen, and a dining room for four people.
Meanwhile, the other house has one bedroom with a bathroom and a family room.
The building of The Twins is not similar, there is one building that is taller than the other building. Egha explained that the design represents siblings who are holding hands.
"For building materials and construction methods, Egha admitted that he did not apply any special techniques. He didn't even spend much on ceramics because the floor is made of raw cement plaster like houses in the old village."
In addition, there is one door in The Twins' house that uses plywood. Meanwhile, the front wall uses the kamprot technique. The use of this kamprot technique makes the front wall of The Twins' house appear like a natural unpainted wall texture.
While for furniture, this aesthetically pleasing house in a narrow alley uses a compact and flexible model. Almost all existing furniture can be folded. Like a dining table that can be folded when not in use.
This house also uses several tricks to create air circulation and bring light into the house. In the photo, there are many openings in the form of large windows and doors that can be opened wide.
