Dream - Before entering the month of Ramadan, we often hear the term Nisfu Syaban. In Islam, Syaban is considered as one of the noble months with many important events in Islamic history that occurred during this month. Syaban is also a time when Allah SWT opens the door of mercy and forgiveness widely for His servants.
The virtue of this month of Syaban is often utilized by Muslims to increase worship and seek forgiveness from Allah SWT. Although not obligatory, various practices in the month of Syaban are usually performed to obtain its virtues. For example, such as reading the Nisfu Syaban night prayer, fasting on Nisfu Syaban, performing the Nisfu Syaban prayer, and reciting istighfar. By performing these practices, Muslims are expected to obtain abundant rewards and blessings from Allah SWT.
In this article, Dream will explain the brief understanding of Nisfu Syaban along with the fasting rules after Nisfu Syaban, which is said to be forbidden.
Definition of Nisfu Syaban Every Muslim may have often heard about the night of Nisfu Syaban, but what does it mean? Especially in the context of Islamic history, the month of Syaban witnesses many important events, such as the changing of the qibla direction from Masjidil Aqsa to the Kaaba in Masjidil Haram, Mecca.
"Malam nisfu Syaban is considered a special night in the month of Syaban. On this night, Muslims have the opportunity to pray and seek forgiveness from Allah SWT. As stated by the Prophet Muhammad SAW: 'Allah visits all His creatures and grants forgiveness to them for all sins, except for those who associate partners with Allah and those who harbor enmity towards each other.' (HR. Ibnu Majah, Thabrani, and Ibnu Hibban)."
One of the recommended practices of Nisfu Syaban is fasting. Although there are differing opinions regarding the recommended nature of fasting on Nisfu Syaban, Sahabat Dream can still observe it with full hope in Allah SWT. Regarding fasting on Nisfu Syaban, there is an opinion stating its prohibition. So, is it true that fasting on Nisfu Syaban is forbidden?
According to the explanation of scholars from the Shafi'i school of thought, the prohibited fasting is the fasting after Nisfu Syaban. This is because the days after Nisfu Syaban are considered as Syak days or days of doubt, considering that Ramadan will soon come. Especially if it is done at the end of the month of Syaban. This is because the person who is fasting may not be aware that they have actually entered the month of Ramadan.
The opinion is based on the following hadith: "When half of Syaban has passed, do not fast." This hadith is not used by Hanbali scholars and others because according to Imam Ahmad, this hadith is weak.
However, not all scholars issue a fatwa declaring fasting after the middle of Sha'ban as haram. This is because the hadith quoted above is considered weak or even invalid according to some scholars other than the Shafi'i school, due to questionable narrators. This has been explained by Imam Ibn Hajar al-'Asqalani in his book, Fathul Bari.
"Most scholars allow voluntary fasting after the middle of Syaban, and they weaken the hadith prohibiting fasting after the middle of Syaban. Imam Ahmad and Ibn Ma'in said that hadith (prohibiting fasting after the middle of Syaban) is munkar."
However, the prohibition of fasting after Nisfu Syaban does not apply to 6 groups of people who are accustomed to fasting, namely: People who are accustomed to fasting dahr (fasting for a whole year). People who fast on Mondays and Thursdays. People who are accustomed to fasting daud (fasting one day and breaking the fast the next day). People who regularly fast nazar. People who fast qadha or make up for missed Ramadan fasts. People who fast as a form of expiation.
These words are powerful enough to make your partner feel happy, but they can also make the relationship more harmonious.
