Dream - Earth residents will witness a celestial phenomenon in the form of a total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024. Unfortunately, Indonesian citizens will not be able to enjoy the extraordinary view of this year's total Solar Eclipse.
Because only residents of the American Continent in Mexico, the United States, and Canada can witness this rare phenomenon. A total solar eclipse is a natural event in which the Moon covers the entire surface of the Sun for a short period. This short period in the world of astronomy is called totality.
It is estimated that approximately 32 million people in the US who were passed by the totality path with a diameter of 185 kilometers, had the opportunity to witness this rare total Solar Eclipse.
Translated text: "It is called a rare celestial phenomenon because a total solar eclipse will not be visible again until August 2044. Meanwhile, a new annular eclipse will occur in 2046. "Before you actually see a total eclipse, it is very difficult to explain. When you witness totality, you can feel how it has a great impact on humanity for thousands of years. It is one of the most beautiful experiences," said Dr. John Mulchaey from the Carnegie Institution for Science, who serves as the director of the Carnegie H. Greenewalt at the Carnegie Observatory."
Although the main treat is the totality and the annular eclipse, the phases leading up to it are also worth experiencing. The problem is that during an eclipse, the Moon does not suddenly appear between the Earth and the Sun. It all starts with a partial eclipse when the Moon appears to 'bite' the Sun. Depending on the location, this partial eclipse can last between 70 and 80 minutes. For those outside the path of totality, the partial eclipse will only appear as a large crescent moon.
Partial eclipse is the longest phase of the total solar eclipse phenomenon. This partial eclipse has specific signs before becoming a total solar eclipse. "About 15 to 20 minutes before totality, the sky starts to get a very strange and gloomy color. Almost like gray because the Sun is very high in the sky, but almost completely blocked (by the Moon)." It's not like sunset or sunrise when the (Sun) position is low in the sky. Suddenly, you lose most of the sunlight, and it feels very strange," explained Mulchaey.
The following 'Bahasa' text translated to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The increasingly dark sky is a sign that the total Solar Eclipse show is about to begin. At that time, observers must wear eclipse glasses to safely observe the Solar Eclipse."
Two amazing phases occur in the final moments before totality, says Mulchaey. As the moon begins to pass in front of the Sun, its light will illuminate the valleys on the lunar horizon. This event creates glowing points around the moon called Baily's beads.
The phenomenon's name is taken from the name of the English astronomer Francis Baily, who recorded it during the annular eclipse on May 15, 1836.
When total eclipse is approaching, Baily's beads disappear, replaced by the 'diamond ring' effect. That single light appears like a giant sparkling diamond ring when it is hit by the rays. Both unique phases last less than one minute.
The total phase of the Solar Eclipse on April 8 is estimated to last twice as long as in 2017. This is due to the Moon's current position being closer to the Sun. Those who are directly along the central line of totality will witness a total eclipse lasting between 3½ and 4 minutes, according to NASA.
During a total eclipse, observers will be able to see the Sun's corona very clearly using the naked eye. The corona is the Sun's outer atmosphere, which is extremely hot. The corona emits light that is visible around the Moon during an eclipse. Usually, the corona is difficult to see because the surface of the Sun is much brighter. During a total eclipse, the corona will resemble a stream of white light.
The following 'Bahasa' text translated to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "The corona is likely to appear brighter and fuller during this total eclipse because the Sun is approaching the maximum point of its 11-year activity cycle. With the corona shining brighter, NASA mentions the opportunity to see a circle of Sun activity resembling a ribbon within the corona during the eclipse."
During an eclipse, observers may be able to see the Sun's atmospheric region in the form of a thin pink circle around the Moon called the chromosphere.
The total solar eclipse will cause bright stars or planets like Venus to shine in the dark sky. The air temperature there will drop drastically as the sunlight disappears. The sudden darkness during the eclipse also causes animals to behave unusually. "We may start to see nocturnal behavior, such as the emergence of cricket or bat sounds." The animals stop their daytime behavior. Birds choose to remain silent in their nests or flying insects cease their activities," said Dr. Andrew Farnsworth, a guest scientist at the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.
