Dream - The brawl that occurred between transgender gangs from Thailand and the Philippines went viral on social media. According to eyewitness reports, several Thai citizens were injured in the incident. As quoted from The Star, the transgender brawl took place at Soi Sukhumvit 11, near the Nana BTS station, Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday, March 4, 2024.
The conflict between these two groups began when a transgender person from Thailand accused a group of transgender individuals from the Philippines of crossing the boundaries of their territory. Initially, two members of the Thai group claimed that their group had been operating in the Sukhumvit area for years.
However, a transgender group from the Philippines emerged and often gathers around hotels in Soi 11.
After the incident, transgender members from Thailand requested the police to investigate whether the Filipina worker was working illegally in Bangkok. They also wanted the officers to uncover the reasons why many transgender individuals from the Philippines stay at hotels on Soi 11.
"Not only that, they want to know whether the stay permits of the involved parties from the Philippines have exceeded the 30-day visa period or not. In addition, they also feel disappointed because the police only managed to arrest two out of the 20 attackers. Lumphini Police Station Chief, Colonel Yingyos Suwanno, revealed that the altercation involved 20 transgender individuals from the Philippines and four transgender individuals from Thailand."
He added, the police received reports from residents regarding the brawl. Police personnel were sent to the location to stop the conflict and ensure the safety of the residents. The police have also invited all relevant parties for interrogation and investigation into the incident. In addition, they will conduct inspections on non-Thailand residents' travel documents to verify that there have been no immigration law violations.
Currently, hundreds of people have reportedly visited the police station to request the police to increase patrols in Soi Sukhumvit 11/1 to prevent repeated brawls.
