"Dream - An American woman was chained to a tree in a forest in India for 40 days. Fortunately, she was able to survive and was rescued by local shepherds after being without food for more than a month."
The translation of "Dibawa ke RS" to English is "Taken to the hospital."
"Lalita Kayi Kumar, who is a U.S. citizen, was found with a passport and other identification documents, including an expired Indian passport. She was immediately rushed to a local hospital for emergency treatment."
A cowherd found Kumar near Sawantwadi on Saturday morning after he heard loud cries for help from deep within the dense forest. The police arrived at the scene and used a cutter to break the chain and free him from the tree. He was immediately rushed to a primary health care center in Sawantwadi, where he received initial treatment. Kumar was then transferred to a more advanced facility for further care.
"He is in a safe condition. The doctor treating him said he is suffering from mental health issues. We found a prescription for medication in his bag," said a police official, as reported by the Telegraph."
It is suspected that the woman has been living in India for the last 10 years with her husband, Satish. However, the man's whereabouts remain a mystery and he is on the local police's wanted list. The 50-year-old woman is currently unable to speak due to her condition. She can only write partially in a letter from her hospital bed.
"In a note, Kumar revealed that her husband had left her in the forest after a fierce argument between them. She also confessed to not eating for over a month. "My husband tied me to a tree in the forest," she wrote."
"According to reports, several people have been questioned regarding this case with an investigation extending beyond the Sindhudurg district, where Kumar was found. He was tied to a tree with an iron chain. His right leg is swollen due to the chain. He is severely dehydrated and unable to speak. The police are also investigating a murder attempt by Satish."
"He also faces charges of endangering the life or personal safety of others as well as wrongful detention."
