This frog is known as the largest in the world of its kind. However, its habitat is only limited to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea in Africa, making it highly vulnerable to environmental damage caused by human activities. These frogs feel anxious and threatened by traps and the increasing destruction of their habitat. As a result, the population of the Goliath frog has experienced a significant decline, and experts warn that if the situation does not change, this amazing species could become extinct in the near future.

"When reaching its peak during the hunting season between November and April, around 20,000 Goliath frogs are intensely hunted," said Sancho, who serves as the executive director of the conservation organization Voice of Nature. He emphasized that the demand for these amphibian frogs is very high, especially in some communities in southwestern Cameroon, where these frogs are considered a highly appetizing dish. One Goliath frog can be sold for up to $15, which is a significant amount in countries like Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea."

In the past few years, the government of Cameroon has neglected steps to reduce the population of Goliath frogs. Finally, pressure from the non-governmental organization, Herpeto-ornithology Muanenguba, established a protected area for various endangered species, including this frog. Poachers seeking profit often enter this area, but conservation activists hope that the government will soon deploy environmental officers to protect these animals.

Although its suffering is caused by human activities, especially hunting and deforestation, the Goliath frog remains one of the most difficult types of animals to catch on this earth. A team of scientists hoping to study the feeding patterns of Goliath tadpoles, with the hope of considering their reproduction in captivity to preserve their survival, has reported that the frog will soon jump towards the Mpoula River in the western region of Cameroon if it hears even the slightest sound of approaching humans.

In a study in 2019, scientists reported that Goliath frogs create holes on rocky river edges and surround the holes with large stones, creating small ponds as a defense against predators such as fish and shrimp, as well as to stabilize water levels. Interestingly, some of these ponds are built using large stones weighing up to 4.4 pounds or more than twice the weight of the Goliath frog itself.
