"During the past few decades, ATM machines have become one of the common technologies in Indonesia. Rapid advancements in science and technology have made ATM machines a common access point for the global community. Although initially ATM machines were only found in shopping centers or malls, now they are even spread along the roadside. However, who would have thought that we could find ATM machines in snowy mountains?"

Installed by the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) in 2016, this ATM machine uses solar and wind power, creating a rarely seen sight in remote areas such as Khunjerab Pass, which is the highest paved border crossing in the world.

Securing the Guinness World Records title for the tallest ATM installation required a complex effort from the National Bank of Pakistan, taking approximately four months to complete. However, this achievement is also something extraordinary. Maintaining and refilling the machine with cash regularly is not an easy task, especially since the nearest bank is 82 kilometers away from the location.

As imagined, being at an altitude of 4,693 meters above sea level and located in a remote area, the highest ATM machine in the world does not have many visitors. Its function is mostly to serve border guards who receive monthly salaries, a few local residents, and some individuals who cross the border through that route. Therefore, the amount of money withdrawn from the highest machine is only around 4 to 5 million rupees (Rp 297,747,100 - Rp 373,124,400) every few weeks.

A spokesperson from the National Bank of Pakistan revealed that the time required to reach the highest ATM in the world usually ranges from two to two and a half hours when the machine requires urgent repairs. Despite the transaction volume at the ATM not being very high, the bank still considers it a priority because the community heavily relies on the service.

 Zahid Hussain, branch manager of the Sost NBP branch, also added that those responsible for maintaining the ATM regularly visit the machine. Even in extreme weather conditions such as strong winds, storms, frequent landslides, and dangerous mountainous routes, they ensure the smooth operation of the machine.
