"11,000 Textile Industry Workers Affected by Layoffs"

Dream - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) recorded that around 11,000 workers in the textile industry have been affected by layoffs. According to the Acting Director General of Chemical, Pharmaceutical, and Textile Industry (IKFT) at Kemenperin, Reni Yanita, these layoffs occurred in large-scale companies.

11,000 Textile Industry Workers Laid Off

Reni explained that this layoff occurred after the issuance of Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 8 of 2024. With this regulation, several textile category goods and textile products can easily enter Indonesia.

11,000 Textile Industry Workers Laid Off

"So the development of the layoff issue in the textile and garment industry can be conveyed by us after the issuance of Permendag 8 of 2024."

clearly quoted from Liputan6.com, Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Furthermore, Reni revealed that the decrease in production and layoffs carried out by these large companies have actually been happening since the beginning of 2024.

"Companies that Perform Layoffs"

"He also provided details of companies that laid off employees, with varying numbers ranging from 500 to 8,000 people. Some of them are PT S Dupantex, PT Alenatex, PT Kusumahadi Santosa, PT Kusumaputra Santosa, PT Pamor Spinning Mills, and PT Sai Apparel."

Layoffs that occurred to thousands of workers have made it difficult for the industry to find workers of equivalent quality. On the other hand, these laid-off victims face difficulties in adapting to the growth of industries in other sectors. This is also an important note because human resources are assets that need to be taken into account together.

"What has been done to improve the skills and competencies of human resources, and what is the fate of human resources who have obtained the National Indonesian Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) if they lose their jobs,"

"ungkapnya" in English is "he/she expressed."

Reni also noted a decrease in the use of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) factories in the textile sector by 70 percent, as reported by the Bandung Convection Entrepreneurs Association (IKPB). "In addition, there have been contract cancellations from contract givers and marketplaces because contract buyers and marketplaces have switched back to imported products," she added. She explained that when the import of finished clothing was reopened, SME actors no longer received orders as before.
