Dream - The transportation of trains in Indonesia is targeted to be able to use nearly half of its fuel consumption with palm oil. The target is expected to be realized after the trial implementation of B40. B40 fuel consists of 60 percent diesel fuel and 40 percent vegetable fuel from palm oil. The B40 trial is conducted at Lempuyangan Station, Yogyakarta since Monday (22/7/2024) using the Bogowonto train on the Lempuyangan - Pasar Senen route.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) as the train transport operator in the country now uses B35 fuel with a volume of up to 300 million liters. "We hope that all usage tests can be completed by December so that full use of B40 can be implemented by 2025," said Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, as quoted from kabarbumn.com.

VP Public Relations KAI Anne Purba positively welcomes the government's plan as it aligns with the company's goal of providing more environmentally friendly transportation services. "KAI strongly supports the government's policy through the use of B40 fuel in railway transportation," said Anne.

Meanwhile, Head of the Balai Besar Pengujian Minyak dan Gas Bumi (Lemigas), Mustafid Gunawan, explained that the usage test on locomotive engines and KA genset engines was conducted. The locomotive engine usage test was carried out on one freight train on the Jakarta - Surabaya route. Meanwhile, the genset test was conducted on the Bogowonto KA on the Lempuyangan - Pasar Senen route.

To facilitate the user testing process, KAI has built blending facilities (fuel mixing) and refueling stations in five locations, namely Cipinang (Jakarta), Arjawinangun (Cirebon). The other three blending facilities are located in Cepu (Blora), Lempuyangan (Yogyakarta), and Pasar Turi (Surabaya).
