Dream - These four men are willing to travel from London to Singapore using a car to raise donations. According to AsiaOne, they are father and son duo, Alfred Waring and Tom Waring. Also, filmmaker Anton Delli-Bovi and their friend, Asfir Chowdhury.
This journey took about four and a half months, covering 14,500 miles (23,335 km) and 21 countries. Including countries such as Romania, Bulgaria, China, India, and Laos.
They used two Land Rover Defender 110, named Imelda and Ferdi. This group started their journey on August 6 from London. The entire expedition, called the London to Singapore 2023 Expedition, was completed in mid-December.
They successfully raised funds amounting to US$250,000 or approximately Rp3.8 billion from four children's charities, namely The Darjeeling Children's Trust, Opening Your Heart to Bhutan, The Library Project, and SAZZ Initiative. This team visited all of these charities along the journey. Including countries such as Turkey, Nepal, and Azerbaijan.
They were inspired by a land journey carried out by two teams from Oxford and Cambridge in 1955. However, it doesn't mean that the expedition went smoothly. Within a few days of the expedition, they encountered problems such as engine failure. This journey was also filled with struggles. For example, crossing the Caspian Sea from Baku in Azerbaijan to Kuryk in Kazakhstan was a nightmare and the team referred to it as "48 hours in hell".
They also admitted that passing through customs in China is quite difficult. When visiting the Darjeeling Children's Trust in Tibet and recreating the iconic photo of the 1921 British Mount Everest Expedition team, they lost one of their cars, Imelda.
In a post on November 16, the team shared that the Land Rover had a barrel-roll accident. Fortunately, no one was injured, but it took time to restore the four wheels of the car to their original position. And they finally arrived in Singapore on December 16.
This is not the first time the London expedition to Singapore has been conducted. In 2019, a team of eight adventurers embarked on a similar journey using three vehicles for 200 days.
