Dream - A 42-year-old Brazilian woman was recently arrested for allegedly bringing a deceased middle-aged man to the bank to obtain a bank loan on his behalf.
According to Oddity Central, the chronology of this incident begins on April 16th, when a woman named Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes arrived at the Itau Unibanco branch office in Bangu, Rio de Janeiro. She came together with Paulo Roberto Braga, who is 68 years old, to obtain a bank loan of US$3,200 (approximately Rp52 million).
The old man sat in a wheelchair and Erika claimed to be his niece and primary caregiver. However, the bank employee soon realized that something was wrong with Braga, as Erika had to support his head with her hands.
Braga really shows no signs of life, but Erika continues to tell the staff that Braga is just quiet. This woman even tries to talk to her even though it is clear that she is unable to respond.
"Uncle, are you listening? You have to sign it. If you don't sign it, it's impossible," eyewitnesses heard Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes say to the man sitting in the wheelchair. "I can't sign it for you, but I will do whatever I can. Sign here, just like the document. Sign it so you won't make me dizzy again," Erika continued.
Then one of the bank tellers was heard saying "I think he is not feeling well," while the others began recording the strange incident.
Erika continues to claim that her "uncle" is fine, just a little quiet, but at this point, the bank employees have called emergency services and the police. "Uncle, do you feel something? He didn't say anything, that's just how he is," said the 42-year-old woman. "If you're not okay, I'll take you to the hospital. Do you want to go to the emergency room again?" she continued.
Paulo Roberto Braga, who unfortunately will never answer his question, as paramedics have confirmed that he has been dead for at least a few hours.
Erika was then arrested and charged with defamation of the deceased's reputation and attempted fraud. Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes' lawyer told Brazilian journalists that the existing facts have been misinterpreted by police sources. He claimed that Paulo Roberto Braga was still alive when Erika took him to the bank, and that he died during the loan approval process, which is allegedly supported by witnesses.
"On the other hand, the police said that the 42-year-old woman knew that she was already dead when she took her to the bank, and she just wanted to deceive the institution. Apparently, the woman is also not her niece, but a distant relative. It is currently unclear whether she is her caregiver."
