"Dream - The issue of cartel practices in airplane ticketing carried out by several airlines has emerged after the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) called several airlines due to the increase in airfare prices ahead of the 2024 Eid holiday."
One of the airlines called is Garuda Indonesia airline. The President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, stated that his airline has fulfilled the KPPU's call. He dismissed the existence of cartel practices in airplane ticketing.
Irfan referred to the red plate airline under him is always open to compete in a healthy manner.
"Already, our team has met with the (KPPU). We have explained the fundamentals of our decision-making regarding ticket prices. What is clear is that we do not have a cartel,""

"Irfan added, Garuda Indonesia has never increased the price of airplane tickets since 5 years ago, in accordance with the upper limit tariff provisions (TBA)."
"We never go up. It's not like we don't want to go up, but it's already expensive. That's the first thing," exclaimed Irfan. "Secondly, we are an airline, regular airlines are limited by the Ministry of Transportation regulations regarding TBA. So, since 2019, we have never gone up, TBA has never gone up," he explained.
According to him, the airplane ticket prices appear to be expensive due to the imposition of airport tax, especially at the main airports. "Last year, the airport tax increased by an average of 100 percent," he added.
Therefore, Irfan proposed that the imposition of airport tax fees could be separated from the airplane tickets. So that the public can see that air transportation fares do not experience a surge.
"So the ticket price you pay me, and the airport tax during check-in, right? So it's clear who is responsible for increasing the price. We never increase it. Maybe we increase the price for business class, but not much."
