Dream - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said there are no restrictions on the purchase of subsidized fuel. He explained that the government only plans to improve air quality in Indonesia to be cleaner by reducing the sulfur content in fuel.
This statement contradicts the explanation from the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, who stated that the purchase of subsidized fuel will be limited starting from August 17, 2024.
"There are no restrictions, what was discussed yesterday was the reduction of sulfur levels in fuel, we have to look at the air quality in Jakarta, this is concerning for health. Of course, these measures will be prepared by the Government."

"Airlangga also highlighted the revision of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 191 of 2014 regarding the Provision, Distribution, and Retail Price of Fuel. According to him, the revision is still under discussion."
"So, regarding PP 191, this is still under discussion. Still in the discussion, not a limitation,"
tegas Airlangga.

Airlangga reaffirms that the Government has no plans to increase subsidized fuel prices. However, for non-subsidized fuel, there is a possibility of an increase adjusted to market conditions. "There is no plan for us to increase, it's just that it should be clear that Pertalite is subsidized, while Pertamax is adjusted to market conditions," he concluded.
"Previously, Luhut said that PT Pertamina (Persero) has started preparing for the implementation of these restrictions. He hopes that by August 17, 2024, individuals who are not eligible for subsidies will no longer be able to use subsidized fuel (BBM Subsidi)."
"The provision of subsidies that are not appropriate, now Pertamina is preparing and I hope that by August 17th we can start where people who are not eligible for subsidies can be reduced, we calculate it there."
he said.
According to him, restrictions are one way to reduce consumption and pollution produced. This is in line with the transition from fuel to bioethanol.
